I'm involved on the publicity materials side with the Summer Sundae Fringe in the first two weeks of August before said festival, where a number of gigs are being put on for a local charity, and I've kind of intimated that after failing to put anything on for it last year I'd be up for arranging a gig this time around. Unfortunately I did this in social networking public, which has meant some decent advice and a couple of offers but also a gradual realisation that this isn't something a newbie should be attempting completely on their own. (Plus obviously it's in Leicester, so the number of bands who'll chip in for free is already limited before taking out those playing other Fringe events)
It's not a charity gig.
Putting on gigs is fairly straight-forward once you get you're head round it. I'm absolutely sure you'll be fine. PM me if you want any advice, although to be honest there's lots of other people much better at promoting than I am so you're probably better off PMing them instead!
i figured the best way to get into putting on your own gigs is just to dive in headfirst
I've got no choice; I'm the only one in my uni's music club who's willing to organize the fundraising gigs. Still haven't done one yet; have to this semester. Any tips would be very much appreciated.
it's fun :)
I was going to go into a big thing about how if I was an actor I'd have to only star in films where my current hairstyle was acceptable, so I wouldn't have to resort to wearing a wig. Huh.
it's actually pretty easy, but can be quite stressful.
as i'm back living in leicester and have a lot of time on my hands, i can help you out if you like.
i hope this doesn't come across as condescending, i just have a lot of free time on my hands due to unemployment.
Haven't quite worked it all out yet, and as mentioned it's months away, but I'll keep it in mind.
Your photo's still up in Firebug, don't know if you've seen. I particularly like how next to it all the other pictures have been replaced with shots from last year's festival and someone's not been concentrating with the rest, so that big shot of Grant Dirty Backbeats is now captioned 'Cold War Kids'.
Everyone has to start somewhere. I love putting on gigs, I think I might put on some more.
