i just wrote a big thing about why i love the straight story so much and dis deleted it.
The Straight Story
if not: maybe The elephant man. or eraserhead. or blue velvet. or actually yeah the straight story was great too.
i didnt like Mulholland drive much, but maybe i should give it another go.
It is very awesome actually. After that i think i might say Mullholland Drive. I really loved The Straight Story although it is very "un-lynchian".
second series of twin peaks is MILES ahead of fire walk with me
but although the development was ace in season 2 of Peaks, the ending didn't quite cut it.
last episode is possibly the best 40 minutes of anything i've ever seen.
it takes away all of the charm and humour of what made the series so good (admittedly the humour wasn't due to lynch's input, but then again it wasn't entirely his project).
the recasting of donna was unforgivable. and they ruined dale cooper. it was a useless mess of a film. i really hate it :(
Twin Peaks the series has charm and humour, yes, but it's charm and humour about stuff that's FUCKING BLEAK.
and the film just brings out the FUCKING BLEAK element of it. making a film that is FUCKING BLEAK. but so amazing, and so definitely what Twin Peaks was always all about. go watch Lost. fool.
it's a series that revolves around a girl who got repeatedly raped by various parties, and murdered by her father, who had also raped her many times. it's hardly My Name Is Earl, is it? how much humour did you expect to be in a portrayal of her final days?
i think it definitely had elements of him, especially the first twenty minutes or so.
i think his direction made what wouldve been a fairly boring film into a beautiful and unique one
but that was one mindfuck of a film
very accessible for him, but still interesting
then maybe inland empire
didnt like straight story
as does the film follow it pretty closely. Duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
do i want to?
and perdita derango. Gifford is awesome.
So fucked up.
The Elephant Man i hated at first but now i love
all INCREDIBLE and not much between any of them. i think all 7 are in my top 20 films evargh:
twin peaks series >
straight story >
inland empire >
blue velvet >
lost highway >
the elephant man >
wild at heart >
the two worst films ive ever, ever seen:
fire walk with me >
was the bingo prize at tonight's Pictures.
not his best film though. a good film yes, but anyone could've made it.
my favourite Lynch = Firewalk With Me.
no-one will ever agree with me on this, but i hold this to be a pure and certain truth.
erm, no. Not that many filmmakers would have chosen to make it.
I'd say The Straight Story or Elephant Man is my favourite of his. Not really engaged with Mulholland Drive (although I did see it about 6 years ago) and Inland Empire. Inland Empire was great for the first half an hour but I found it tedious after 3 hours.
the beer molecules were interfering with my reasoning brain bits.
when the twist hit me i wanted to cry
3. blue velvet
4. inland empire
6. lost highway
7. wild at heart
8. fire walk with me
^^ all amazing
Best film of this decade.
I need to get involved. My dads got twin peaks, series one that I keep meaning to borrow.
whats that piece of music called in Mulhalland Drive that the woman 'sings' at the club? Its at the end of Prison Break series 3 too. It gives me many goosebumps. I want it.
it's actually perfect
although i quite like lost highway
Jack Nance's hair!
The lady in the radiator!
The constant, teeth-grinding, industrial whining and clanking.
and whilst I didn't think it was amazing it intrigued me enough to try and check out some of his other films.
