There are 'One hundred billion trillion' planets where alien life could flourish

I've been saying this for years, FINALLY science is catching up with me
This is kinda exciting isn't it? What do ya reckon?
The only downer is when he states quite casually that mankind probably won't exist in 100000 years and the chances of there being truly intelligent life coexisting at the same time as us is unlikely. That's a sad thought isn't it? Advanced civilisations could have been coming and going for hundreds of millions of years in far flung corners of the galaxy completely ignorant of each other and disappearing in time forever. We're probably just another insignificant bunch whose time will pass in a relative instant. I suddenly feel very lonely.
So go on then, talk aliens and the purpose of a pointless existence. Why do we bother?
