Excellent start by Strauss and Cook
58-0 at lunch
Monty's been dropped as has Sidebottom - Swann and Harmison playing
he's been england's most consistent and reliable bowler for two years. whenever there's a pitch that should suit harmison he seems to capitulate, so i don't know why they'd be thinking he's going to dominate. fair enough anderson couldn't be dropped after not bowling a single ball last test, but it seems arbitrary to bring harmison in.
i like swann in for panesar, batting down to 9 and more variation with the spin. shah for bell has been obvious for months, i really hope he performs because i think he's a player that could really cement a place in the team.
looks like this game could go for a high-scoring draw - meaning all the batters will feel delighted with themselves and harmison will be gone for the next test.
but Sidebottom was picked ahead of Anderson for the original second test, and Panesar was picked too for that one.
i mean anderson got handed a chance in that second test and couldn't be dropped after not doing anything. sidebottom holds the fort down well, and brings a lot of energy to the attack when anderson and harmison look like they're going to cry when things go against them.
then it would be this pitch at Antigua. You can't leave him out in these circumstances.
I guess that the thinking behind the dropping of Sidebottom and the inclusioon of Anderson is that Anderson will also offer more pace and deliveries from height whereas Sidebottom has the greater control, but tends to skid the ball through with little threat.
