WIns hands down for me, despite stiff competition from The Dolphin..
and for me anyway it requires the use of the DLR to get there which in it's own kind of way is cool. Puts on some decent stuff
What's your favourite late-night music boozer?
but The Hemingford is a 5 min walk for me and is a fantastic pub.
The George Tavern isn't bad at all though. Occasional good gigs, a good level of manky, feels moderately busy even when there's like 12 people in there. Not bad.
I like The Florist because it's two minutes walk from my flat..and it's nice in there too.
I can't stand it
In fact, I heard that there is an awesome gig/club night happening next Friday, with Action Beat, Maths Class, Don Vito, Keyboard Choir and We Aeronauts all playing.
Club Branleaf, or something like that.
Thing about this place is that it's harder to get to than an itch on your back.
It' slike in the middle of nowhere. And it's a bit run down to say the least. "Massive shithole" is what other people might say.
is very, very true. The bloody DLR!!!
It's open really late, has cheap drinks, comfy seats a darts board and regular free nigths with great DJs.
I also love the Efra in Brixton, they play really loud dancehall/hot r'n'b, serve goat curry and sometimes have jazz bands.
How far down commercial rd?
Only a couple of minutes from Whitechapel High st. Its usually open till about 5 on weekends and they have a really cute cate. They have a myspace:
a DJ was playing generally-bad music out of the cheapest, most awful sound system i've ever heard, an old man starting talking at me about badges ("oh, i have loads of old badges from the 60s, the beatles, the stones, all the old pop groups, do you think they're worth anything?") and the cider i had tasted of bad. like the furnishings though, and they had a super lovely cat prowling around.
it's in a part of town that is how i imagine everywhere would look post-zombie holocaust.
And it's made all the worse by being about a 5 minute drive from Tower Bridge. I like the place though.
It's a bit like a cross between Eastenders and a Sergio Leone saloon.
