1. he looks sick.
2. there is NO WAY he can be that mental
3. david letterman is such a cunt
but this year he has become my favourite famouser.
i.e. FUCKING EPIC BADASS
Can't believe he made that fuckin Uni-Bomber joke
I can't wait to be that mental
he looks great though
comes off as a total cunt
any reasonable minded person watching that back can see that phoenix is unstable
its the equivalent of the "hilarious" early stages of x-factor whereby we all sit around and piss our pants at folk with mental illnesses trying to entire the judges
but he couldnt come off worse in that
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xut56q77GK0 <3 oh man
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKftpGB03vU <3 <3 oh man
Can't really bear to watch this.
Otherwise Letterman's gonna cringe at this when the news breaks of Joaquin's accidental drug overdose or something. What a cunt.
Check out Crispin Glover almost kicking Letterman in the face!
when he has casey affleck filimg his every move
but what i have read has suggested that phoenix and affleck are making a mocumentary. for example affleck was there at phoenix's first rap show filming it.
also at the end of the letterman interview it seems like phoenix leans in to talk to him properly
You can see him stifling laughter at times
maybe it is all staged? it is definitely really amazing if he knows its funny
in a pretty normal, lucid voice. Definite wind up, some great comic timing going on there.
If you've seen Man on the moon, then you'll know about Kaufmann and the host acting out. I don't think Letterman was acting, but I think Pheonix is. At least I hope he is.
with an absolute lack of material from a guy whose on the show but doesn't want to be there. Or is doing this utter pisstake he needs to work with.
He has to keep it moving and keep it enteraining and, whilst I sympathise with, for example, FitzCarraldo's points. if Phoenix is as unstable as he appears then I think Letterman's much less to blame than his manager/agent who must be aware of his state of mind but still let him on the show.
they seem to be making fun of each other most of the time.
anyway i'm sure phoenix will fight jerry lawler next.
It was Joaquin sitting there looking bemused at Letterman and the audience openly taking the piss out of him. It's fake anyway...a bit. I reckon.
it seems they're getting laughs off each other from the situation.
it would've been entirely one-sided.
but not necessarily for a mockumentary. It seems he's just got bored with acting and is trying something out.
Interesting article on it here: http://chud.com/articles/articles/18139/1/DEVIN-GOES-INSIDE-THE-JOAQUIN-PHOENIX-SHOW/Page1.html
the death of your brother on the pavement on Sunset Strip in West Hollywood..He's clearly distressed.
what, you think it's only just hit him after 15 years, and he's been OK all this time and then suddenly had a breakdown?
perhaps more sensitive than you.
You can't put his recent behaviour down to grief over River's death, unless you can somehow explain why he spent more than a decade not acting crazy.
Or maybe he was hiding his true feelings, and NOBODY SAW HIS PAIN, and this is a final cry for help before we start reading a whole load of articles that finish with the words "... before turning the gun on himself."
Or maybe it's a publicity thing. Let's wait and see.
my flippancy shouldn't be misinterpreted as insensitivity, and I can only imagine how traumatised I'd be if something similar had happened to me. But I think there's more to it than that.
He's just uncomfortable on a phoney show like Letterman, the consistant mocking and laughing at him made him reluctant and looked like he didn't want to be there... he's clearly a deep and sensitive sort...can I get you a tissue?
I've got a stack of printouts here listing all the previous times he's appeared on phoney chat shows. That should be enough to blow my nose with.
Up beat and entertaining all the time...
You're on a wind-up, and I'm walking away. Good hustle, though – you had me thinking you were serious.
I just replied again and it disappeared. Let's see what happens.
he's still mental
I'd agree with that. It's like a joke gone too far. Really weird.
aplusk: does anyone have a working link on the joaquin pheonix interview on letterman
mrskutcher: just watched Joaquin on Letterman wow wow wow. that is some funny s**t!
aplusk: I saw him in DC at an inauguration after party, he was in character there as well. He's awesome!
this means he is totally amazing
I like his beard
youtube is terrible, pretty soon it won't be worth using except for happyslap videos and this:
...be a tad worried about him. But oh look, his fellow actor friend Affleck is filming it all. Its a character.
Plus I find it fucking terrible that so many people feel the need to comment on his brothers death helping to 'provoke' this "meltdown". Now whether it is a serious 'Art Project' or Mockumentery is the interesting thing. I look forward to seeing what comes out of this project but also feel like we are missing out on more first class performances from Affleck, who, in my humble opinion, is one of the best young acters around at the moment.
Casey Affleck is family, he is his brother in law, crazy bastards! Lock em up.
My youtube isn't working :(
Letterman was clearly in on it. You see Phoenix at the end taking of his glasses and speaking to him "out of character"
