they cut out most of the good parts
Then last week I found out Nancy Cartwright (Bart) is a Scientologist. And she canvases the Los Angeles area twice weekly leaving messages on people's answering machines in an attempt to boost numbers. And she puts on Bart Simpson's voice when she does it. And now I don't know where to turn for guidance anymore. Cartwright = Fail.
because it has links to the nazis and has led to the deaths of celebrities . . .
Homer is like a completely different character. I guess that suicide attempt he had around this time made me a lot stupider and removed all his aspirations.
Homer is basically two-dimensional "angry dad" for season 1 and the first bit of season 2. It's odd how almost overnight his character suddenly changes and becomes the focus of the show. Also how, from then on, the next 150+ episodes are basically all solid gold. I have to remind myself of that occasionally when pondering the shitness of the new stuff.
stop with all the hate :(
he was frustrated at his families lack of togetherness and respect for themselves, and he ends up pawning their tv so that they can afford therapy.
or when he tried to kill himself because he'd lost his job and become a burden to the family.
in the new ones he'd probably just bang his head against something and be all duuuuurrrrrrrrr me don't know.
but the idea of Homer Simpson commiting suicide is strangely fucking hilarious.
and jump the line 'o look hes walking his rock'
Don't forget how big Bart and his catchphrases were through its first three or four years, so that it was basically known to most as "that Eat My Shorts show". Of course the series spoofed that on the I Didn't Do It Boy episode, but Bush was able to make that "more like the Waltons and less like the Simpsons" comment because at that time it was being seen as just this dumb dropout-kid-plus-family show. Dan Castallanata did a UK promo visit in about 1993 and hardly anybody was bothered because he wasn't "you know it's a girl that does Bart, right?" Moving the central character subtly onto Homer and playing him up as an idiosyncratic fool but loving klutz of a father, and from there being able to develop him in his world (Moe's, the Kwik E Mart, the power plant) gave it a whole fresh angle that's ultimately allowed it to go on for so long without being swallowed by pop culture moving on from "don't have a cow, man!"
this is a better analysis than the majority of this book: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planet_Simpson
the total destruction of Homer's character since season 9 is probably the worst thing the show has ever done. it makes me actually sad.
i've found a 'watch simpsons' website that seems to work
at least for ^this top 5 simpsons episode anyway
at this time of day, localised entirely in your kitchen?!"
www.wtso.net - A reason why I'll fail my degree, but the best streaming site for the simpsons ever
www.wfgo.net - same but for family guy
www.watchxonline.com - And this is for futurama and american dad. The former being perhaps the greatest animated show
