the israeli general election

so the fairground of israeli politics is sending around netanyahu and barak again. personally, i think peace would best be worked towards with netanyahu. he's a right-wing nutcase, undoubtedly, but they're usually the ones that can carry the extremists of israel towards a settlement. like sharon withdrawing from gaza, or reagan in the 80s in the US - sometimes it takes the one who no-one doubts is hardline to soften relations.
i'd like british reporters to not say zippy livni all day - sippi, SIPPI, livni - but i don't think likud can win this one. and rightly so, two wars that beggar belief. lieberman is the ultra-nationalist who would make arab-israelis sign a pledge to honor israel or be ejected. he's not religious, and he believes in the two-party state - he's also probably the most dangerous of the four and he'll probably be a kingmaker in a split parliament.
