jesus. bit over the top maybe.
the motoring community needs to learn that just because that their auto-solipsism is false and those outside their isolated bubbles of air-con and radio 1 matter as well
It'd be faster to walk!
defying Dr. Johnson since 17whatever
not everyone who thinks it doesn't get any point across is automatically some Jeremy Clarkson-worshipper who doesn't mind the idea of killing someone. its grief pornography, an ad man's wet dream to be as grim as possible.
that's horrible english
was all i saw there
i guess i'll just have to keep a clean record and look down my nose on people committing motoring offences instead. so it goes.
if you did start to pick and choose which laws you're going to obey and which laws you don't...well, it's a bit egotistical at the very least
or probationary service?
deep breaths again, deep breaths.
i see. carry on, carry on
domestic violence? Are you being serious?
then you'll understand
so, no I probably wouldn't actually :)
she hit you
you only pushed her away in self-defence, you had no idea the banister was so old and rickety ...
"Today, I was talking to my mom about my younger brother getting his girlfriend pregnant. She asked me how old I was when I first had sex. I'm a 21 year old virgin. FML"
And it is amazing. You should do it one day, brusma. It'll be like your own personal segment on Top Gear. It'll take the edge off.
would definitely solve the problem of the road at the bottom of my street that I see families from the junior school getting almost mown down on every day.
I even once got screamed at by someone while crossing when a red light changed to amber (i was partway across the road as it changed).
so do rottweilers
their BMW's whilst talking on their mobile phones though do they !
that would be dachshunds and Volvos
if human society wasn't rammed full of fuckwits everyone would try to keep five mph below the speed limit anywhere JUST IN CASE
but i don't think bad drivers will be swayed by this advert or similar ones. they are cunts, they may not be able to help this. just the same i don't live complacently that because i'm a careful driver i could NEVER hit someone, which i think is the message.
never is fuckwittery more exposed than when cars, driving and motoring are concerned. it's when people either show or decent or how despicable they are imo
but you get my thumbs up (Y) for what that's worth
on bypasses and motorways, my car refuses to go above 60. i don't enjoy driving fast, my car is not good enough for it. i can listen to more albums this way, and it's easier to mix drinks slower.
I want a fucking drink
hold the wheel a 'mo. *punches you. hard*
The parents have to take some responsibility for this. Those dead children are obstructing my driveway and my dad can't give me a lift, meaning I have to get the bus, meaning I'll be twenty minutes late to meet my friend. Everyone suffers, especially me.
I would say that like most things, showing the most gruesome consequence might well be the best way of dissuading someone from doing something.
i think your life's worth more than that, even if you don't
i'm sorry you feel this way about the world, i truly am
you leap up, punch the air, and declaim "pigfoot wins, again!"
you never fail to fulfil my expectations, pigfoot. that's what i like about you
Jesus, think it through.
So until it does, they're gunna keep throwing out reminders.
I know it's hard, but don't be a cunt.
than you already are, so yes, do yourself a favour and don't bother.
You're very tedious.
Bring it on.
catches butterfly and frog
only dreams of crocodile
you mock fucktherave?
1) Why haven't I seen more of this
2) I might have to start liking you
wow, I'm honestly surprised.
Yeah, the guy is a complete cockend. Trying to discuss anything with him on the music board is downright impossible. He insits on acting like a 6 year old child all the time.
..favourite Diser lists? Or do you not remember those kind of things?
I wouldn't worry about it. I think that I liked you because you spoke your mind and actually had opinions.
People knew in the 60's and 70's that drink driving and not wearing a seatbelt made them more likely to kill themselves or someone else whilst driving but carried on anyway. Stiffer penalties and government campaigns have reduced the number of percentage of people that do it. Why should that not be the same with speeding?
and presents you in a way you want to be seen by other people?
making the roads safer?
but can't really be arsed getting into a serious argument, so agree to disagree?
Jeeeeeesus what the fuck is the world coming to? Who the fuck are YOU to judge how successful this advertising is, huh? What are we meant to do instead? If you recommend we increase jail terms for drink drivers or something like that, then fair enough, but there's gotta be something to try and dissuade people from doing it in the first place
For fuck's sake I swear the intelligence of this site's users goes down daily.
My point is that you can't just give up on a problem and hope it's going to go away/accept it never will, regardless of how much it may cost.
I can't comment on your own experience of drink driving, all I know is that I'm close to not speaking to my grandmother because of the danger she puts herself and others in as a result, and that my uncle died in a car crash thanks to driving on the wrong side of the road while under the influence.
If the drink drivers themselves want to put themselves in danger, then that's fair enough, but it's the fact they endanger other lives when they do so that needs to be pointed out to them.
Given that I'm living in fucking FRANCE at the moment there is SWEET FUCK ALL I can do.
I'd appreciate it.
The best I could do was phone up and offer to have someone pick her up to save her driving round to our house.
I haven't passed my test yet but I'm putting money aside now so I can get passed, get a car and insurance as soon as I'm back in the UK.
I'm a fair few hundred miles away right now, there isn't much I can do.
and we can't completely eliminate reckless behaviour
HOWEVER, given the number of deaths on the road and compare that to say, deaths from suicide bombers, then gruesome TV adverts seem pretty tame a response in light of THE WAR ON TERROR
so, in sum;
and not, say, derbyshire?
but afaik snake pass wouldn't particularly come under sheffield's jurisdiction, though for such a unique case as that there's probably a collaborative effort between local, regional and national levels
oh boy, and with these fingernails already bitten nearly to the cuticle.
if we went for a walk up Three Waters first
numbers of people driving drunk and sober. numbers and percentages are different.
but why are manufacturers allowed to make cars that are capable of reaching clearly dangerous speads?
studies have also shown that the safer you make a vehicle, the more likely the driver is to take risks and the less likely he is to think he is taking that great a risk
would be better ploughed into r&d for floating cars goddammit
this is NOT the future I was promised as a child!
there isn't even a fucking monorail in my city! Trams for fucksake! Trams!
So much for transportation progress. I blame the car.
and I don't care
just wondering if someone could point me to the reports which show that this type of advert is ineffective and that they are having diminishing returns. Unless it is just anecdotal experience or personal opinion being generalised to the UK population...
And there are different levels of understanding. Just because someone understands at the abstract level the implications of an action (e.g. drink driving is bad) doesn't make an attempt to concretise this for people (in this case through shock tactics) automatically a waste of time.
Look at how much HIV infections shot up when they stopped all the adverts warning people about it. You wouldn't have thought people would be that stupid but, oh dear, they are.
Problem with HIV and speeding is they both have potential to fuck other people's lives up so it's important to try to educate that section of the population who are both foolish but pay attention to such things.
Emotional appeals can work very well, and are fairly cheap (especially if you square it up against the amount of money that's spent on something, like, say, road maintainance).
and how their effectiveness is assessed but there definitely isn't the evidence to suggest this type of campaign flat-out doesn't work.
I just watched it. Its a bloody horror film
Maybe the reason these adverts are still played is because the numbers of drivers in the UK isnt static. With new drivers on the roads everyday, maybe these ads are there for them. Yeah, if you've been driving 5/10/20 years you've seen these ads a million times. If you've been driving a week then maybe these ads will have a resonance they didnt have before you were in control of a big metal child-killer.
I hate seeing it too but its only a few seconds long ffs. Turn the channel. Or is that too easy?
Finally... got there in the end.
Is THIS cool? ... Is THIS COOL!? etc.
everyone knows it's conor hamill.
I pictured it as Chris Morris in the same clothes he wore when he went on that Kilroy-esque program.
How's that for contest-a-fucking-ble?
Y'know, as opposed to over the top. Anyone? High five? No? Well, fuck the lot of you.
there 2,943 people killed on the roads in 07-08
and in society, 8,724 alcohol-related deaths in 07-08
Combine the two and you see....
460 deaths From Drink driving.
So the scientific point that is absolutley perfectly sound, is that we should discourage speeding by encouraging drink driving.
The science fits. You cant be wrong if 60% of the time your right 10% of the time. And That is Science!
It confuses me on so many levels. Maybe that's the point. I'm scared.
wankers who pass my friends as "fit to drive" are the biggest killers on the roads.
I've lived in Germany for a year, I am on my second speeding charge for just 26kmh over the limit on a motorway. Yes they do have speed cameras here but they DONT tell you where they are. At least with English cameras you dont really have an excuse.
