I've been getting all nostalgic of late over old PC adventure games and abandonware and am looking for a proper old-school adventure game to get immersed in.

I've never played King's Quest so can anyone recommend it? Which one of the series is best to start with (obvious choice is 1 of course, however this seems to be text-based which would really get on my nerves)?

Damn I want the good old days of gaming again, when one could become so obsessive over a game that it was all I could ever think about for a month!
