we've added new things.
hopefully not broken in the site in IE6, etc...
the order of those will shunt a little as it sorts itself out a little.
is there anything that doesn't work now?
Well, not even long threads, some seem to break after only about 5 replies.
it's happening for seemingly random reasons... tom has been investigating it but it's something to do with people posting at the exact same time and has done it since we started the site.
we added the /linear (add it at the end of the thread title) to ensure ridiculously long threads work ok
I realise not being able to replicate an error is a developers nightmare so I'll leave the complaining to other users. Not knowing where my reply will end up adds a bit of excitement anyway.
i don't like complaining about all of thise, because i think it's pretty, but i do get annoyed with comments like that. i've raised various issue that have not been fixed, and id on't care about them that much, it's only a website, but you cannot say those things are fixed, when they clearly aren't.
moreover, you said that you changed the colour of the forums to make it less obvious for those at work, and now you're putting pictures all over the place. i hope you can see what i'm getting at here.
the pictures on the new stuff on the rhs don't look right in IE6. They don't quite line up with the text and the top one is missing.
AS the old saying goes why change something that is broken...
i meant the recent picks and greatest hits beneath it
They're all over the place reply wise. I'd say at least 50% of threads.
replies going everywhere. If you're going to have a linear site surely you may as well get an off-the-shelf forum. One of the joys of DiS is the reply system. And lack of avatars, signatures, etc
there are many reasons we can't get an off the shelf forum and also doing so won't allow us to develop them to have some forthcoming useful functions (like tagging threads, so that all the threads asking where to start with Tom Waits appear in the same place, for instance)
they arn't in the boxes for me either I'm using IE7
we triple checked it in that... not sure our version of IE6 is the same one other people are using (especially as tom's doing it in some fake-windows thingy on a mac... if someone would like to donate us a shit computer with IE6 it'd be greatly received...)
Mine works fine. Get yourself firefox fools.
so dontgetanybigideas, it aint gonna happen!
I am now at work and 'suffering' from pictures that dont fit in boxes.
Proof that smugness is a terrible trait.
The pictures sometimes go out of the boxes, sometimes disappear. Not sure what's causing it...
Should be. Tom forgot to put an update up before he left the office last night.
It's looking good and inside the boxes now nice one
but then I lost all confidance in the idea when I saw Kate Nash in the Greatest Hits.
There should be like 200 articles and the panel on the right should show a random selection each time the page is refreshed.
and they'll randomize
If you now click on words greatest hits it'll show them all. And they'll randomly switch every 5 mins.
Will continue to add more, suggestions welcome!
one of the most-read articles on the site of all-time, weirdly
I was referring to jimi saying 'I lost all confidance in the idea when I saw Kate Nash in the Greatest Hits'
I was just being silly
I did go and buy 6 copys though on the back of it popping up in that new feature though. I'm still not convinced it's a 4.
I'd not read that Panda Bear interview before, very niiiice.
but why not...
and especially for first time visitors... of which, everyday, about 40% of the people who visit the site are here for (seemingly) the first time, due to googling anything from the lyrics to 'Atlas' to today's most popular search term which is "Tila Tequila"?!
they were my favourite. get mike_diver to write them again please.
the replies moving over to the right still happens.
i like the pictures over there ---->
where no on can type anything and there's just a picture of a gay parsnip shouting at Bill Gates.
with the boxes at different heights than the message boxes its a bit awkward. makes my eyes go a bit welsh
Mad props for giving us all a site to procrastinate on and everything but pretty please with a cherry on top stop saying you've fixed all the problems with the site. You haven't.
So how come people only started noticing round about...the time of the 'redesign'? Maybe we were just blind before then. Or we all had a sudden spazzy attack of reply inability in October.
And it's not just in long threads. It broke within about six replies yesterday.
That said, those pictures over there -> look pretty.
im going to have to delete more threads for no real reason
he means since the new site because the thread breaking thing clearly never happened on old bluey or peachy.
Is this like when the Premier League started and Sky pretended that league football up until that point had never happened? Chelsea are the third most successful football club of all time!!!!
I just wish everyone would remember how to reply properly, including you and including me!
We didn't redesign the site, we infact rebuilt it, to allow it to run faster, not crash and be more ordered from its very foundation. The site pre-October wasn't something we could develop and was starting to cost us way too much in server costs and was basically a real mess. I know on the surface of it there have been a lot of errors but behind the scene things are much less tangled.
The problems have mostly been for those in IE6 or for everyone else when we've fixed things for them.
I am really sorry, I want this site to be the best thing on the internetz and the last thing I wanna do is annoy anyone.
the site crashed.
Have feelings too yuhknow
Or did you get a Twitter update that told you that?
