see this is what happens when my threads don't involve the words
'sex' 'erection' 'egg' or 'television'
^ very true
Although I missed the 'egg' one. Intrigued!
it was titled 'i just fried an egg and ate it'
it was quite a hit
Must check it out
Although I'm mildly disappointed it wasn't sex-related.
you left it twelve minutes.
..
Yes, I've watched this.
There really is little to no point in holding out for anything other than a
'Soldjaz r baby killaz!!!11' response though.
The armed forces have become utterly isolated from most of the population, they're simply too few in number and it's been a long time since national service and the large standing army of the Cold War, people soon forget and they have.
Other than those with friends and family in the armed forces few people care and obviously, that's their right.
to be fair there are roughly 100,000 people in the army
Yeah, thanks Chris, I know.....
and that's precisely my point. The army is less than one third of the size that it was when my father joined it.
Outside of garrison towns they're largely invisible.
Hardly any politicians have served in the forces which only serves to further the disconnect between the military and their civilian masters.
what year exactly did your father join the armed forces?
because obvioudly the armed forces would be larger in number throughout the cold war
67'/68' I think.
He retired in 2002.
I haven't watched it,
but my girlfriend has. She was in Khandahar when it was being filmed, she thinks it makes the place look like a holiday camp - she did see a lot of shit when she was there.
yeah that's one of my criticisms
the only people who stay on that base constantly are RAF gunners, RMP and clerk staff etc, most people are in and out fighting etc and they try and sell the army in a way that you can have a subway in afghan if you join!
She's in the RAF
so didn't have to leave camp, but she did try to get out on a few flights. But staying on camp all the time isn't safe, the tent next to hers was hit by a morter, injuring 3 people inside, and most nightshifts they were attacked when working around the aircraft.
She pretty lived off Subways and Pizzahut for 4 months!!
what a life
