it wouldn't surprise me if Dave's Brave New World included a whole bunch of people like cg paid minimum wage to go and try and get voters on forums and shit
Drowned In Sound as a viral marketing venue for the Tory party:
is he referring to GGs threads where he usually gets shot down?
who gives a fuck.
presenting their ideas in an aggressive, objectionable and boneheaded fashion to a load of people that wouldn't vote Tory if hell froze over? I think CG is a rogue agent.
Actually a good mate of mine used to be heavily involved in formulating the Tories' online marketing strategy. I can ask him if this was ever part of it.
presenting their ideas in an aggressive, objectionable and boneheaded fashion anywhere and everywhere, regardless of audience.
I still don't believe he's real (despite having met him)
fanks. Eloquent it was not, though - but fun.
whether or not CG's being put up to it is a moot point. Maybe it is, maybe it's a bit of initiative on his part to try and boost his Westminster profile/career. It's still bloody dogmatic shite.
What MP does he work for btw? PM me if it's not publicly available.
Oh I forgot when opinions are different to yours they're automatically wrong aren't they.
I don't think CG expects to convert people to the Conservative party - he just gets his hoots from getting a rise.
nb I'm not a Tory
You seem to be making the mistake of thinking that CG is trying to legitimately argue things. He just throws something contentious out there and waits for everyone to get their knickers in a twist.
You're chasing a parrot with a lion trap, dear lad
Was in relation to how dismissive The Love is to the opinions of those who disagree with him. It was not a wider point
But sadly, CG is just on a wind up. There's no alterior motice. That's just how he gets his kicks.
No one will care that much and he'll be forced to resign. Whoo. It's not as if he's some big hitter.
I mean if you look at things like the BBC Have Your Say the recommendation system is abused by people with multiple accounts, etc, etc.
There certainly seems to be some sort of strategy going on across the web in general. But I agree CG just seems to be trolling.
More an observation of a trend of your tendency to label everyone who doesn't agree with you as an "idiot"
about the psychology of 'headline persuasion.' You can sum it all up with one nice finding, really: people are more receptive to persuasive arguments if they know that someone, somewhere holds that opinion, or simply that the argument 'exists.'
Example: in condition one, you ask "aren't bees AWFUL." 10% of people say yes.
In condition two, you say "some people think bees are rubbish. aren't bees AWFUL." 20% of people say yes.
By this token, CG's posting of non-partisan headlines might be having subtle effects beyond the slanging matches that his threads turn into. It doesn't matter if his argument is comprehensively torn apart in the body of the thread; he earns his worth to his employers by posting the headlines.
Part of it is just about 'normalising' those arguments. When those statements become background noise, the work is done; simply because you're not offended by them any more.
This perhaps only works in reverse for the people who engage in the threads themselves; doing so causes you (well, me) to come up with more reasonable propositions to counter those arguments beyond TORIEZ R BAD
but when you say he "earns his worth" to you mean that literally? Because the idea that his posts are part of some considered Tory campaign is slightly ludicrous.
I dunno. Weirder things have happened. Companies have internet 'street teams;' that is, people paid to talk up products on forums.
But, yeah, no, I'm not being serious about CG really; I don't really think that it's what he's doing here, because there'd be no way that he'd be so, uh, offensive at times.
the userbase is way too small. I think he just REALLY LIKES THE TORIES. Dude is a tory fanboy. If politics were games consoles he'd be this guy:
or, best of all
CG's got me onboard.
but I genuinely think that Sam, whilst obviously being Conservative and esposuing many of Tory values, just quite enjoys winding people up on the internet to pass his time. jonny_rat raises an interesting and worthwhile point but DiS operates on far too small a scale and has too small a readership to have any real effect and the notion that this could be a considered campaign (not that anyone seems to think that) is laughable.
What is CG actually being criticised for here? Being a troll (ie winding people up for a laugh) or virally marketing the Tories (ie "trying to make a point and change opinions"?)
if being a troll is winding people up for a laugh- the having a laugh bit IS the agenda.
But I'm bowing out because it's hometime. BYE.
The one were you label him a troll? Depending on what defintion of a troll you're working off, I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you on the matter.
If you went on to a predominantly Conservative-minded (not Nazi... let's not fall into a Godwin-esque trap here) forum and did tell them they were all idiots and post links to Obama's inaugration, you might well be doing it for kicks because you were bored, rather than any attempt at viral PR work.
Ultimately, trolls (I hate that expression... too internety) are a matter of taste, innit? You don't like what CG does and neither does John_Brainlove. Other people think it's funny. Most don't care either way.
Cliche ISN'T on a Labour/left-wing/liberal/whatever blog or website. He's on a music website with no explicit political persuasion.
Am I missing something? He's almost scarily pleasant and aimiable in that thread! As he's seemed in person...
thus my use of the term 'Conservative-minded' rather than 'Conservative' in my post of 15:44. I still don't think it's the same as going to a website with explicit political leanings and posting up a storm.
It simply must be a Tory masterplan to colonise Animal Collective fans
not that the tories/other people might/do not do that, i just can't quite see it in relation to CG. sorry.
I don't agree with his hard-nosed views but I don't think he's campaigning particularly, he just enjoys being obnoxious and winding people up.
is actually a viral marketing tool for his music.
here: http://drownedinsound.com/community/boards/social/4137116#r2449706 the guys just a Tory Matador waving red rags at the lefty 'bedwetters' and casually standing aside. It's cheap and easy but hey, everybody needs a hobby.
