Favourite Shakespeare play

DanielKelly [Edit] [Delete] 31 replies 10:14, 21 January '09

I'm going to see 'A Midsummer's Night Dream' this evening but I think if push came to shove, I'd pick 'Twelfth Night' over it.

Always quite liked 'The Merchant of Venice' too.

  • I saw Othello at the Globe last year

It was good. Standing up for 3 hours wasn't.

    • Othello's pretty good

Coriolanus sounds like a bunch of boring arse and is a bunch of boring arse.

      • Also an honourable mention to Macbeth and specifically the Banquo character.

Even if I have probably spelt his name wrong.

      • Definitely Hamlet, good call.

Studied it for Literature a few years back, and it absolutely fascinated me. The amount of time you can spend trying to uncover the literature, and yet still not find all of its secrets is mindblowing.

        I <3 Shakespeare

            • Did anyone see David Tennant in it?

I really would've like to have gone. I saw it years ago in Stratford and it has Timothy West's son as Hamlet.

It had TWO intervals it's so long.

    • where to start with Shakespeare though ?

Do I get his early stuff or stick with the the post Berlin phase Bowie/Iggy stuff ?

    • The answer is...

Henry IV parts I & II

      PreludesNocturnes | 21 Jan '09, 10:34 | X
    • Hamlet or Titus Andronicus.

Midsummer Night's Dream is gay with a capital DALE WINTON.

      poptimusgrime | 21 Jan '09, 10:38 | X
    • The Tempest

Similar to Midsummer Night's Dream in tone, but more action/less gay.

    • how many people have read them all?

i can only comment on the 3 i've read (at school) -

      romeo&juliet
      merchant of venice
      hamlet

of which, i liked Hamlet the best.

      • I've read or seen 17...

... it's also fairly commonly accepted that there are a handful which just aren't worth it (e.g. Coriolanus), which narrows it down as well (that ends well).
