i always put loads of veg in it and have toast on the side.

who orders a salad as their main course in a restaurant. That said, I almost did it myself when I was on holiday in Spain a few years back. Fortunately I caught myself and ordered a load of cold meat and cheese instead.

if it's a really thick soup and there's a lot of it, it could be a good main meal, but that's nearly a stew.
Normal soup and bread is strictly a secondary meal.

I'd say that its a lunch. Certainly not a main meal.
But a meal? Only if you add some bread.
(got a bowl of chunky chicken and vegetable soup right now in fact)
The condensed soups that are roughly 72% chicken broth? Not so much.
Well, it's a desperation meal. It most definitely is not a proper meal, however. I'm always still hungry after soup.
You can't DRINK a meal, that's madness. Hence soup is not a meal. It's a starter.
but i wouldnt eat canned soup.
I like to make a big batch of soup on Sunday and then it last me through til Friday.
Times are hard, but soup is good.
At dinner (lunch dinner) with bread (if creamy soups like tomato etc) or toast if lumpy soup(like veg etc). French stick is lovely... :)
IT IS NO MEAL
i just had soup. it was homemade and contained chicken, onion, potato, carrot AND pasta. clearly a meal. clearly soup. clearly the food of champions.
