and have now lost 400GBs of music. Woe is me :(
There's probably a lot of recoverable data on there. Run a scandisk.
how do I do this? When I switch it on it makes chugging noises and the on light is flashing as if to say "mate, I'm FUCKED!". I can't access it from the my computer window so I dunno?
Doesn't sound good. I'd suggest removing it from the external unit and then plugging it directly into your computer via an IDE cable and shizzle.
It's possible it's actually the interface that's been damaged by the drop not the drive. You may have damaged it irrevocably but if there's stuff on there you actually want you should be looking at getting it repaired in some way.
I was just gonna throw it out
there was 400GB of music in existence.
I have 20gb, how the fuck would anyone ever find time to listen to 400gbs?!
Count it as a blessing
Freecom 400GB only £70! Bargain
And it also does ESATA for future proofing. (6x USB 2.0 transfer rates.)
I'll look at this. Thanks Theo, sorry for being sarcastic below x

I have a Terabyte external one I got through Amazon. Play.com do them too.
You sound unsure, Theo.
The implication being that the answer was so obvious I guessed there was a reason why you hadn't already explored this avenue.
i got a 500gb about a year ago for £75
all is well everyone!
Im sure you can fix it, everything else has been when its been fucked!!
Hang on, its not dead yet!
asking for a bit much there </Theo>
I'm going to say 20% Maximum
With about 5% ever being played more than twice.
think of how much all that music must have cost him!
with about 10% being played more than twice. It was years of stuff man.
I hope you paid for it all. Or was 95% downloaded in a not so legal way!
all the stuff I hadn't listened to properly was the not so legal stuff
i don't have a beard
I got one for Christmas that's 640GB I think it was about £60. A western digital one.
Good luck with your salvage operation.
