i havent. i imagine it must be pretty unsettling. something like dead calm or something. rank.
anyway - have you?
on a boat to santorini from athens. It was dark though and I have pretty terrible eyes.
It took more than 12 hours, the sea was so fucking rough and I was hopelessly hungover, and the only edible things we could find on the ferry were gyros and beer.
It's probably been the most unpleasant day of my life so far.
the wind was rough though. Inside was packed so we slept on the top deck. The air was full of salt and we just lay down on teh benches in our sleeping bags. Worth every minute though when we were woken by a purple sunrise. AWSM.
but once i threw up over the side of a ferry to France
actually i havent. but it reminds of the harveys were all sick on the hovercraft. good times
especially after being convinced by us that it was the only way to cross the channel
one by one. down they went.
i can imagine it bttle inflatiblt frightening. imagine being on a little inflatable dingy at your favourite beach, falling asleep, and waking up and not seeing anything but sea? scary as fuck.
I did once go swimming in a pool that was quite far from one side to the other.
And when I've been quite near the shore, but without my glasses on.
^ doesnt work
fell off a boat. hate boats.
But it was only the english channel so it didn't feel that scary.
i mean like in the middle of the pacific
You should have been more specfic.
So is watching the islands rise up as you get near them, i've seen that on the way out to Barra
on the ferry to France this year from Portsmouth to St Malo. I didn't find it unsettling at all!
Did see an amazing sunset that night though..
(doesn't really do it justice)
spend much time there this but it looks really nice. I've never seen so boats in a harbour before!
an awesome place to drink loads and eat, also there the Route Du Rock festival in August where I've had the pleasure of seeing Sonic Youth, The Cure, !!!, LCD soundsystem, Why?, Islands, TV on the Radio etc. Pretty much my favourite festival.
but I'm an old sea dog, so I don't mind too much
And the ferry from Newcastle to Amsterdam.
it was pretty floaty at times
plus, I've seen Waterworld if that helps.
none of this north sea bollox
Although I don't remember much of it as I was busy throwing up into socks. The North Sea is shit.
We attempted to get out to an island miles away, but got half way and realised we were still nowhere near. Me and a mate jumped out into the sea from a swim, and the jokers left on the boat decided to drive (sail?) off, leaving us floating in water so dark that you couldn't see your feet
They came back about 5-10 minutes later, but it was still slightly scary
in the north sea and the baltic
could see oil rigs tho, if that takes away any of the points
I found it very relaxing but then the weather was good and we knew what we were doing.
When I was a kid I used to sail racing yachts. Sailed South into the channel, but a wider bit where you can't see land either way, a few times. During the day it wasn't that great, what with all the shipping; but at night... wow. There was a harvest moon once, it looked huge, twice as big as normal. Not sure what caused it, some kind of atmospheric distortion or something, but it was incredible to lie on the deck and watch this massive thing just hanging there...
oil rigs and such
On ships going from Italy to Sicily, Sicily to Malta and Malta to Africa. And sometimes on my uncles boat when we went out pretty far. It's cool.
I've been on this LAKE and not been able to see land.
