Into The Wild
incredible, right? I saw it last night and I can't stop thinking about it. It could have been really overearnest and moralising but they judged it perfectly, it's amazingly directed, and Emile Hirsch should have got an Oscar nomination. The strange combination of his character's youthful charm and energy and his relentless, blinkered idealism is so believable.
There are so many really devastating scenes in the second half of the film. The bit where
(spoiler, kind of)
the war veteran tries to adopt him is totally wrenching.
