pray tell its secrets, i am going in blind.
I think they go out in Coventry a lot.
i'm giving it one day.
where do you work pigfoot? if its on commission, i'll consider helping you out.
as soon as I turned up I was like "no thankyou"-campus uni and stuck in the middle of nowhere. Far too insular for my liking.
but this was about 5-6 years ago
It was alright. You probably have to seek out the good bits, but they're there.
as i have friends there and my sister is also there. The campus is pretty cool. Good sports facilities, great library and lecture rooms and halls are just a stones throw away from each other. Not to mention the on campus bus service which gives you busses like every 5-10 minutes.
I live close to where pigfoot lives so that's why im there a lot too. Most of the students go out in Leamington which has got quite a good little buzz, but they only really vary between two different clubs, but there are loads of bars, some of which are pretty cool. Also Leamington would be a great place to live for 2nd/3rd year as you can get a house quite easilly about 3 minutes from the centre of town where you can get your shopping and go out etc etc etc. I'll give the whole experience an 8/10.....if you're going to the uni and applying for accomodation apply for rootes or benefactors!
obviously there are more clubs, but students gravitate towards smack and evolve
2nd year. its okay, just make sure u live in rootes in the first year! its the most sociable place, which i soon found out actually made a huge difference to your experience. academically its great. socially it can be great if you meet and make lots of good friends, however the majority of people are a bit geeky..most people are oxbridge rejects. i lived with 12 people in the first year who never wanted to go out. ever.
be warned theres no music scene, they have a couple gigs a term at the student union on campus (recent highlights - dan le sav vs scroobius pip, the automatic, the twang, scouting for girls - you get the picture) , none in leamington, a few in coventry. i live in leamington which is alright but you will have to get used to goin to the same two clubs each week with the same shit music. coming from london where im used to being spoilt for choice and great music this can soon drain the life out of you.
And she's a famous.
Warwick uni isn't in Warwick. It's Coventry suburbs on one side, open fields on the other three. I've heard lots of people say it gets a bit claustrophobic if you live on campus. On the other hand, it's a really great uni and if you live in Leamington, like me, it's easy to get to but you get the benefits of living in an actual town too.
As for nearby places:
Warwick itself - a really beautiful town but nothing happening there; not really a student place.
Leamington - a nice town by and large. Culture / nightlife aren't the best but the place has a good vibe. Everywhere's easy to get to.
Coventry - grey and ugly and depressing - not even the outer bits are nice - but perhaps a better bet if you prefer bigger places with more going on.
I went there in the mid-late 90s. It's alrightish for a campus university. I have never been back and would never dream of doing so.
Live in Leamington and avoid Coventry at all costs.
