Britain's not there. It's a comment on how we ludicrously think that because we're an island, we're not actually part of Europe.
and thusly will be difficult to be part of the United States of Europe if taht ever happens... but yeah
Hawaii isn't even on the same continental plate as the U.S.
That is piss poor logic.
'the UK - criticised by some for being one of EU's most eurosceptic members - is absent from Europe altogether'
or maybe that its below sea level?
that's not controversial enough
plus, the minarets
Mosques stand for muslims. The increasing muslim population is 'flooding' this traditionally Christian country. Perhaps?
there was no mention of Britain in the article i did read. teach me to browse telegraph.com
or that is where it is supposed to be, but the space has been left blank. I've just read the explanation but I don't understand it, something about "spatial holograms of historical memory, experience and each new overlap becomes another non-linear tangle to the naked eye".
Romania - Welcome To Dracula Land
Malta - A small, perhaps negligible lump of rock
Italy - Football, an auto-erotic system of sensational spectacle with no climax in sight
Hungary - Csabai sausage and ripe melons
Anyone know what all that's about?
"It is an opportunity intended to cope with false patriotism and find relief from the destitution of Bulgarian material and spiritual life. It's a punk gesture, intentionally primitive and vulgar, faecally pubertal."
Bulgaria is shit, basically.
unequally controversial towards different countries, its kind of brave of whoever commissioned it to actually put it up once htey'd seen what the artists produced (specially as the could actually redesign bulgaria without scrapping the lot......i think that leaving the UK off yet having the space there is good too.
I dont think that it is appropriate for the EU to have that.....but that precisely what makes the artists work more delicious for me....I think its ace.....i mean its gonna bring a smile to your face isnt it? just for the bare faced cheek
in particular if you consider the artworks in conjunction with the descriptions.
The more I look at the UK representation, the more I like it; the stereotype being that not only does the country prefer to be outside of the EU, its artists specialise in incomprehensible conceptual nonsense.
and produced a brochure detailing the 27 contributing multinational artists when it was only 3 of them who worked on it.
i really think it's a fantastic piece of art. And even before the artists explanation it's entirely obvious that it's tongue in cheek.
