I'm from glasgow though my parentage links back to the Irish republic.
as my dad was based at faslane, but have lived all over....my parentage is split between England and America
i know of that place well - mates live out that way.
but I left because the people were all insular weirdos. One of them had NEVER EVER EVER been out of Dumbarton in her WHOLE ENTIRE LIFE. :S
that might be a channel 4 documentary. THE PERSON WHO NEVER LEFT.
It took ages to get there too.
like my mum's job is to go out to their houses when they're threatening to kill themselves and stuff. one of the people walks 40 miles a day to go to his work cos he's scared of trains, and lots of them pretend they're gonna jump off the erskin bridge. apparently theres a really high rate of personality disorders in that area.
Linve in Glasgow.
Grew up & schooled: Lincolnshire
Sooooo..e where *am* I from?
that's mental, does he leave at midnight to get to work at 9 or something? are you sure it's 40 miles? when i go out walking for an entire day i usually cover about 15 miles. crazy dumbartoners.
i left when i was 5 but still have lots of memories of the place. In fact i went back there a couple of years back whichbought it all back to me too
I knew he was a Scot.
he was a road sweeper
Saying it in an American way doesn't make it sound any cooler does it?
there is a place in Maryland called Dumfries accroding to McNulty
Although I spent my first few years living in Cheshire.
which is part of here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bedfordshire
I'm from the place that's farthest from it.
Tenzing Norgay used to sherpa me to school.
He was dedicated, old Tenzing.
He helped Sir Edmund Hillary.
parents are from lahndan tho
my parents - northern ireland and england.
though my mums family back in the day is from scandinavia somewhere, cos her side of the family are like the most scary Aryan blonde haired blue eyed freakoids ever.
stupid load of shit
cue this turning up somewhere weird
Which school did you go to?
heritage goes back to Ireland (like all scots through the years) and england.
it's a nice place to come back to isn't it
Which is in buckinghamshire, and sandwiched between slough and london. Parents are welsh/irish.
went to school in middle of Birmingham. Mum and her family're from manchester, Dad is mainly scottish though left scotland when he was 14 and lived in Berlin, malaysia and birmingham. His mum was scottish all the way, his dad was from Aston in birmingham.
Apparently I have some romany blood in me, and a touch of irish and norwegian too.
mum's from Leicester, dad's from Essex.
Mum's parents were from Leicester and Birmingham, dad's were from London and Manchester.
Dad's grandparents were from Poland and Russia.
Born and raised in Hackney
2nd generation immigrants: don't die so young or toil so hard but still end up accomplishing nothing
3rd generation immigrants: get an education and an inflated sense of faux-patriotic self-worth despite selling out and becoming filthy rich. I hope.
the same place as Marcofella
which is basically next to stansted airport and close to bishops stortford, herts.
My parents are from tottenham/enfield
25% Irish decendants
Doomed mix right there
and a mixture of English, Scotch and Belgian.
I severely hope you did not used to get your clarinet serviced in me.
mother grew up in hertfordshire, father somewhere in the Bleak North. dunno beyond that, and don't really care much either.
Where in Hertfordshire is your mum from?
she grew up in Chorleywood.
My ex used to live there, I actually quite liked spending time in Chorleywood, even if there is absolutely nothing to do there.
According to some newspaper or other, probably the Telegraph.
My parents, grandparents, and all but one great-grandparents were born there.
I am not inbred.
Born and raised in Cornwall;
London grandfather on mother's side moved to Cornwall as a child during the war, met my gran who had a baby unmarried with some Jack the lad which must have been IMMENSE back in the day when everyone was hyper-pious. Four crazy children, the only daughter being my mother, working class types.
Mamgu and Tadcu are my Welsh grandparents, both from Tredegar in Wales. Six Children from their marriage, all very odd and a bit aspirationally middle class by proxy. My wayward dad meets my crazy mum; thus I am created. I am not at an age where my parents would have been married for four years, had and divorced, which is very odd indeed. During this tentative infancy I believe I lived in Norfolk for a time, before living with my mother for 11 years til domestic hell breaks out and a court battle gives me over wholly paternally.
From there, I moved to a little town called Calne, in Wiltshire. There I mourned the loss of a 'dead' childhood, and rebuilt almost from 11 to become a smashing well rounded human being with seemingly no identity to my biologically maternal influence and an eccentric Mr Toad-esque world view.
From there, I studied in the land of my fathers (Aberystwyth) and felt a belonging of three years, but it's so cut off you can't really say. Touched base and moved to Leicester, which has been a heckuva ride so far and i've met some awesome people (and some crazy people too). Mixed heritage, but that's ok with me.
That's my life story!
Why I follow so many football teams!
just Cheshire, all of my previous family are from cheshire.
lived in fleet for 21 years...
with a mix of Italian and Irish heritage and shit.
have you ever saved a small child from a raging inferno?
my mum is from silloth in cumbria, my dad is from ahwaz in iran.
Well, I was born in Unthank, but that's basically Glasgow.
then banished to Londonion
Born in Sidcup, grew up mostly in Bexleyheath, family from Streatham, Dulwich, Bermondsey, Brockley, going back a fair bit.
Although I found out the other day my Great Grandparents are buried in East Dulwich Cemetary, which is pretty much over the road from where I now live. And my Nan's old house is very close. Bit weird.
and lived there until I was five and then moved to Moncton, New Brunswick.
My heritage is basically Irish and Scottish with a bit of Inuit thrown in at some point, I believe.
I have a bit of Irish and somewhere in the Mediterranean isles in me. I don't like where I live and hope to move one day.
Mother born in Cricklewood to former members of the Polish resistance, father born in Algiers, possibly descended from 19th century Sudanese jihadist Muhammed Ahmed al-Mahdi. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mahdi_Mohammed_Ahmed)
My dad is English through and through (almost, if you do back far enough there's some German and Irish) and my mum was born in LA, her American side (her dad) originally descended from Blackfoot Indians in the 1800s. My nans (mums side) dad was Italian and it's where my name Frank comes from.

Worsley is green.
also, there seems to be far more salford DiSers than one would expect.
I remember talking to some kid who went to my school on here a few months ago.
And my previous post should read 'Salford' instead of 'Manchester' but that goes back to the thread from the other day, let's not get that started again!
yeah, i think i was that kid. i found someone who went to my college too.
That was you!

where you moving?
It's only a Leekes, a drive thru McDonalds and a rubber factory! It's not even a real place!
Any suburbs you'd recommend/advise against?
Somewhere with mid-price rents, fairly convenient for the city centre, lots of 20/30 somethings and
a medium-to-low chance of getting stabbed would be great!
where i'm living is nice.
Easton is...interesting :P
Really the only places to avoid as much as possible are Knowle West (which is a ghetto for white people) and Southmead.
Cotham is nice but a lil bit pricy.
Will research these places tonight, but now I am off to Pizza Hut with a borderline nympho Kiwi!
i can never decide on a one word answer to this question and that annoys me.
'Y'know....here and there'.

Born in Innsbruck, Tyrol Austria to English parents, mothers side is Austrian, fathers side is English (although we can trace the family back much). Raised from an early age in Leicester, stalled a family move to Chicago at age 12 (Mum didn't want to go and Dad hated it after around a month of being there by himself). Failed family move to Milan at age 15 as my dad thought it would be better for his work to fly him out there every other week instead.
I've pretty much lived my whole life in Leicestershire apart from travelling and uni. Marvellous.
Parentage from North Yorkshire and Grangetown, Boro innit.
but I always consider myself 'from' Dorset as it's where I spent my formative years. Plus saying you're from Aldershot usually elicits a subtle sneer of some sort.
Islington for the first 20 years of my life, currently in Wandsworth, moving to Deptford next month possibly...

My dad is from Wolverhampton, went to uni at Leeds then moved up to Edinburgh for work after. They sent him over to Michigan where he met my mom & proceeded to get married after a couple years dating/going back and forth between places. Mom didn't want to live in the UK so that's how I've ended up here. Hopefully in a year and a half I'll be making my move back across as I've wanted to for quite some time now. :)
