Yet another manager with a dossier of his grievances, wonderful stuff.
but most of what he says seems fair
"Or there is another option. That Mr Ferguson organises the fixtures in his office and sends it to us and everyone will know and cannot complain. That is simple."
we were all thinking it, go on Rafa!
he woke up, evidently, and thought 'Today, I am going to go mad as a bag of cats in front of the press about Fergie.' as if saying you can't use mind games if i've lost my mind you Scottish moaning twat.
probably different weights and sizes.
must employ proof reader.
At last someone has the balls to stand up to the red nosed bully. I'm so proud of Rafa.
This title race just got taken to the extreme.
To be fair, he’s got a point, like.
He is saying things that should have been said a long, long time ago.
than Man Utd v Chelsea will be on Sunday.
kinnear is the only one who can pull this shit off.
would be himself. Odious little man.
if this had been on Sky. Like Keegan.
You're not allowed to complain about Fergie, because everyone loves him so much.
Aside from what Benitez has said, Ferguson's a good manager - but if he was appointed today, he'd have been sacked. It took him four years to win anything with United. It's not like he came and turned them round instantly. It took four years and lots of money.
He's not even in the same bookshelf as Shankly.
That's pretty amazing, that's like the most famous picture of Shankley. I could listen to Bill Shankley stories all day.
Fergie is a great manager, there's no doubt, but he has had a LOT of money and a LOT of luck to help him along the way.
in no way did he manage to only hold on to his job for four years based on one lucky champions league success...
getting to a Champions League final and coming back from 3-0 down to win 4-3 down to luck, isn't it? In four years he's won us an FA Cup and a European Cup.
The only way I can explain it is jealousy of our European prowess / bitterness that we're at the top of the league (and in terms of Arsenal fans - they're going nowhere this season).
Because he is the best man for it.
Yes, good and bad. It sort of evens it out really.
It was quite a freak occurance that they had so many great youngsters come through in the mid 90s. They've barely produced anyone since, and that was the foundation for their success in the mid to late 90s.
if chairmen were more patient with managers, you'd have a lot more managers revered in the same way that Fergie is. I have a shitload of respect for Moyes. He's been there for years, is getting consistent results, but if he'd had that 17th place finish last season, he'd be gone, no question.
Fell into the trap :(
I hope he knows how to deal with the mind games though, because Ferguson's the master.
Fergie Vs Keegan/Wenger/Mourinho were all fascinating battles, but Rafa will bring a whole new approach to things. Apart from the Heinze incident and when we're about to play each other there's been no real need for them to lock heads before.
I'd been thinking that as soon as someone in the United camp starts saying things about Liverpool it'll prove that Fergie views us as genuine contenders.
on anything. Ever.
he has a beautiful talking voice
I thought i haden't seen Uriah Rennie(?) for a while...
"I do not want to say too much at the moment."
accusations of pro-United bias from Brian Barwick's FA, absolutely tremendous. Has he even seen the fixtures United have had so far? He says he doesn't want to get involved in mind games, then proceeds to totally lose his shit in front of the world's media. Comical.
If he's this highly strung in January, what's he going to be like in April/May? He's definitely teetering on the brink of a Keeganesque meltdown, the mard cunt. Ferguson must be pissing himself laughing.
The amount of 12 o'clock away fixtures on Saturdays was ridiculous. That is his point.
"We will analyse it and talk with the Premier League. We will see how to stop this situation, but if you play on Tuesday, for example, in an international break, it will be easier. In the Champions League, if you play on Wednesday, you must play on Sunday. In Spain its like this. The television companies decide on early kick-offs on Saturday, so someone needs to talk to them as well. If you want your teams at the top of the Champions League, then protect them."
September 2007, that. And today:
"Two years ago we had a lot of early kick-offs away on Saturdays when United were playing on Sundays. And we didn't say anything"
the whole thing is littered with contradictions. I often find myself disagreeing with Ferguson, but if he gave a performance like that I would be mortified.
I do realise September 2007 wasn't two years ago. But my point is, Benitez is certainly not averse to putting pressure on the FA/PL when it comes to fixtures.
the manager of a team just about holding on to the top of the table responds to some mild "they'll be under pressure" comments from Ferguson by ripping into Ferguson's character with specific reference to fixture lists?
It's not as good as when Keegan did it.
of the fact United have had to play away games after every European match so far this season. It's complete nonsense tbh, he's made a right arse of himself.
We’re only half way through the season. If United make it all the way to the final, it just about balances up. Next season it might be the other way around.
For Ferguson to claim that playing all of the title contenders at home in the second half of the season is a disadvantage is pretty silly, and the whole thing has made him look really paranoid.
comes out of this worse than fergie.
even to the levels of saturday morning cartoon villain insanity.
look at how emotional he is, his arse is clearly going. He's dropped a bollock with this one. Ferguson doesn't even need to respond, Benitez just comes across as a bitter, whinging fanny.
I didn't notice much nerves from Rafa. More like his bad English getting the better of him, but he seems forthright and self-assured to me.
but Benitez has responded in the worst possible way to his comments about Liverpool possibly falling away in the second half of the season. He could have just laughed it off and said he had confidence in his squad, but instead he starts ranting and shaking with rage in front of the press.
It's got to go down as one of the worst attempts at mind games ever seen tbh. If Benitez is going to start flying off the handle at this stage, wait until we get towards the end of the season.
for example, "Ferguson gets away with everything" before listing all the punishments he's been handed down by the FA. The complaints about referees are hilarious as well, has Mark Clattenburg been forgotten so quickly?
my favourite man alive.
Rafa's 'The police have a vendetta against Liverpool FC' when Gerrard gets put away.
I will personally fund an open top bus parade if Stevie G gets sent down.
where Stevie allegedly battered that bloke
I hope they hang him
i want liverpool to win the league now, as sadly Arsenal have no chance. Go Rafa!
...when I saw 'Rafa has gone crazy' and the massacres had stepped up a notch. Woops.
and i tell you what
i would love it if we beat them
why are people comparing this to Kevin Keegan? Rafa was calm and collected and had planned everything that he was going to say. I'll admit he might look a bit foolish if we lose at Stoke and United beat Chelsea, but I think he knows what he's doing. Remember he had to battle Barca and Real in Spain who completely own the media there.
It will be interesting to see how the media react to it. Will they dare support him and face the wrath of Fergie? Maybe the BBC will support him, they have nothing to lose.
I would've thought fans of all clubs (apart from United) would have stood up and applauded him on this one.
and United will win on Sunday. I'd bet my own grandmother on it.
It'll be like the Drogba incident last season all over again.
I would have thought the hypocrisy and contradictions contained within Benitez's comments would put some people off, though. He's no stranger to berating refs or complaining about fixtures, so for him to have a go at Ferguson for doing likewise is a bit rich. Sounds to me like he's still a bit bitter about Mascherano's sending off at Old Trafford, tbh.
It's obvious what he's trying to do - distract Ferguson from Sunday's game as well as putting a bit of pressure on the ref. Benitez does seem rattled, though, and Ferguson hasn't really had to do anything yet. He's also inadvertently made a big deal out of what should have been a routine win at Stoke.
I think it was Michael Carrick who got the ball rolling though.
and I'd be a bit surprised if anyone else was paying attention if he had. I like the lad, but he's not the most charismatic.
and Chelsea simply "get on with it", sneak up from behind and snatch the title. It's the only way we look like winning it at the moment.
