Fox said it was umitigated pile of shit and Warners elected to wholeheartedly support the film and put loads of work into it.
Now Fox are attempting to claim they have equal rights to the profits or something.
but warners made the movie anyway?
If Fox owned the rights they wouldn't be in court, they'd own the rights. It's been in production for 15 years, this film.
But the main point is that it's a film they didn't want to make made in a way they would never have made in the first place. Why should they even have a say now?
Fair doesn't even come into it.
however, surely if it is going to court this might be a bad idea?
What I don't understand is why Warner Brothers said yes if Fox actually held the option on Watchmen. How on Earth did things ever get to the stage that this became a dsipute now, with the film completed and ready for release, rather than when production was in a much earlier stage?
Fox had a stinker of a 2008 and have become aware that the Watchman movie is going to generate megabucks for somebody in 2009. They basically chanced their arm in court and won, much to everybody's surprise.
