Please can someone tell me what the point of the ingredients test/tell the fat-headed judges why you love cooking so much is?

The lady who won, whose food did look lovely, started crying at the interview stage and was called passionate. Plus, someone who ges through from the heats gets thrown out of the quarters without even cooking a baked bean. It's real harsh.
