Watched this film again tonight........my god, it's bleak. Great film though.
back to back with my film studies housemates.
followed by the equally cheery War Zone http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0141974/
I think Nil By Mouth is ultimately the grimmest because it seems so much more real.
because it's just too bloody depressing to see again (see also: Requiem for a Dream, Irreversible, Grave of the Fireflies, Schindler's List)
bought it months ago and never got round to putting it on.
I tend to watch that about once a year. I think that one wins the award for bleakness
The scene where ray winstone is talking to his pal about his dad is so good
Ooooo he's an abusive spouse....her brothers a druggy.....he's also a petty criminal....and he's an alcoholic. How-bloody-austere.
Nonetheless-----Winston and Burke gave brilliant performances.
Most of his acting is a blind mans representation of a Bash Street Kid and his directing debut goes down the same route.
Oldman = Severly overrated
