why does the general consensus seem to be at least six listens to take in an album...but only one watch for a film?
if that makes sense....bear with me here...
i know there are obvious things....with a film, you give it your full absolute concentration...music maybe background noise for some listens...films longer...music more accessable for repeat listens...etc etc
but what is it about music that lets us listen again and again and again...in such short periods of time....multiple times a day.... where....not always, but normally...we only watch a film once and feel we have taken it enough to pass judgement.
like...a music critic will often say....'it took me a few listens'....but with a film critic...unless the film has been seen before at a festival...i assume its usually only one hit before they review....id be suprised if a music critic gives their reaction after just one spin..
and like i said...obviously length plays a role, lets say most albums average 40 minutes and films 90...but still.....
i dunno what im getting at really...
i just think its quite interesting to think about how we digest the two forms....
or maybe it isnt....maybe it is just as simple and obvious as the fact that they are so different so we just consume them in different ways.....but if this is the case.....what exactly is the difference?
i dunno....can anyone elucidate these pointless drowsy thoughts and make some sense on the idea?....or just tell me that im barking up a tree with no leaves...
