It's pretty rubbish now.
DiS was the first one where I ever posted in any amount
JAGGING the training programme/zadie says probably. I was 'Jack Sabbath'
Mainly to moan. I can't remember what I posted under though. Possibly under something like postmanpat.
p.net seems to be dead now, but it doesn't really have great source material
you guys ever been?
I don't think I've ever even had a night out in Stamford (Rock on the Meadows aside). I'm not really a massive fan of Stamford to be honest.
Saw the Surgen's final gig there a few months back. It seemed to be a really good venue.
I like Stamford.
i was there...halloween right? it was really good, huh? One of them works there as a glass collector now :(((
The guy on the far right here:
I've been in contact with someone called michael who i assumed was the manager...
I don't think he owns it or anything, but I don't think he's just a glass collector either. The one 4th from the left in that picture is my brother :)
Wow, really? You should tell them to get back together... Peterborough doesn't really have any other good bands that i'm aware of except Opaque perhaps.
We were wondering whether or not to play one of their tracks as a sign of respect, or if that'd just be embarrassing.
Double Handsome Dragons - they're from Peterborough and dead good. Good lads too.
they seem pretty good, not sure if i'll get to catch them on Sat though (i'm upstairs)... maybe i'll go see them at the Glass Onion the following week :)
Maybe see you there!
double handsome dragons, as thewarn says, are really good.
Sidearm used to be ace, I don't know if they're still going.
And Frisco Farr (from Wisbech, so not quite Peterborough,) sound like they could be really good from the couple of snippets on their myspace http://www.myspace.com/friscofarrmusic)
I can't stand opaque though, it seemed like every gig I used to go to, they'd be on the bill.
two of them are in the double handsome dragons now. I miss Tic
I think I only saw them once though.
I just miss the days of clubwithnoname in general.
You play anything? LETS DO IT
I can shout a bit though, and there is a bass guitar in my nans loft.
A covers band playing songs of peterborough bands 1998-2001. As long as we did HHH - Making Changes...
If we stretched it to 2003, I could play limitless (well, 6) Training Programme songs. Probably throw in Tics 'better than $up' as well.
HHH were ace. I used to knock around with the singers brother, so I saw them loads of times. Nearly as much as the late, great (fucking awful) Lucifer Blue.
I reckon I could remember the chorus to Sorted for Cheese and Crisps by Evil Macaroni as well....
I was a later CWNN attendee (at Uni/travelling until about 2002). So it was all about Tic, Sidearm, Abintra, Evil Macaroni, Tunguska Butterfly, Barrelass, Casey Jones etc. Spike (from Barrelass) and Sam from Tunguska Butterfly have a new band now:
Seeing Che (pt I) at the weekend.
and although I went a bit before that, that was when I started to go regularly.
I remember all of them apart from Abintra. You can add Kingcow, Three Miles Down, Acer and arconna to bands I used to see all the time.
Considering I used to go every other week pretty much, I haven't been to the park in about 3 years.
I knew at least one of the surgeons used to be in PH, wasn't sure if it was him. Both pretty great though...
the nme chatroom was where i cut my chops tho
mebbe BGHaven or summit. I wanted to know where to get some character or something. It then evolved into Charmguild, but I left fairly soon after, what with uni and the real world and all.
http://forums.charmguild.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&hilit=surely&t=59 i think (quick google search)
I was ostracised for not liking 'Burn Burn' much anyway. Then there was a gap of about 6 years and I got an office job
and dallied with moacsupreme.com too. It was fucking ages ago though so I can't really distinguish between any of them any more
or were you just as boring back then?
mutant_enemy (Buffy reference).
no bells are ringing
A mate at college set it up in 2004 and I signed up to it. Still going strong IIRC.
doesn't really count i know.
regularly, I'd say DiS. So i lose.
There's a surprise.
it's not there anymore. There were only six people who posted on it and four of them were in the band.
You mean we don't have to use this one? Christ.
It was on Delphi.
circa 1997 when it didn't really work very well.
I posted quite heavily from when I was 16 to 18 and then thankfully tailed off. I did talk to a couple of people from there on MSN who ended up going to the same university as me and being among my very best friends, but other than that it really was full of mentalists.
It's long dead now.
you don't know them? Thank Christ.
Queens of the Stone Age and related bands official forum.
Back when it was called ThrillRide!. I am user No. 15, of 15k. excellent
on Idleiwld's message board religiously from 2000-03
hardly ever posted, mind.
I remember there was a regular who had a photo of himself covered in post-it notes that said 'GAY'.
And there was a poster called 'Roddyisgod' who was always sarcastic.
Then they closed the place down!
And "scouse git"
It's no more?! A sad day indeed.
They might have relaunched it since but if they have it's probably now full of people who love warnings/promises
i actually met her through the ildwild boar. god forbid.
the small world of internet music forums
it was making me go insane, the people were either horrible, or silly little immature children, with shit music taste.
Why do you post?
I used to be in that till about 6am during the school holidays in 99/2000
when I played Quake 2 & 3 online
Aww, I miss that. I got banned, which was pretty silly given I was remarkably inoffensive. I can't even look at it now. The Magic Heidfeld thread is probably completely dead now, there were only a few of us who kept it going. Stupid crazy moderators.
Moved to the NME board when MM died.
But if that doesn't count then it was various Games Workshop-related ones. I wish I was joking, but I'm not. They had futuristic names such as 'portent.net' and 'thewarp.' I did spend some time on the OFFICIAL GW forums but they've been taken down now.
circa 2000 or 2001.
glittersluts r us
The only reason I would is try and dig up some old guntrip posts and laugh at him.
Ha. What was your username? I was Neuron.
i think i remember your username! i was 13ish, only a nipper.
A site for erm, music in Welwyn. It was funny.
yes, I am that cool. Before that I used to do the chatting on IRC, but I guess that doesn't really count?
either the fall's or blur's. the fall one was pretty much exactly the same as the current fall forum... always different, always the same.
maany maanny moons ago
Unofficial Muse forum.
Then also the official Manics one.
and create a new tribute board.
This Is Definitely A Good Idea.
Official Manics forum
cos i lovedup the techno
feeder and weezer circa 2000/2003
which is amazing
before i realised how shite they are
Good local board like, tailed of when I went to uni in Edinburgh and stopped caring so much about the Aberdeen scene
Currently lurk in comments sections at The Register (http://www.theregister.co.uk/).
(+ fannied around on Guardian Unlimited for a bit, 10+ yrs ago)
actually since there seens to be a distinct lack of ambient/noise artists on the site these days.
Then I got bored and came here. And I never did an ounce of work since.
It's gone now though.
Which has since been renamed and relocated about a zillion times.
God I miss those days, of Crackout, and Judge B. We spoke to each other on there FUCKING YEARS AGO.
it was called sharpeningbeneath i think?
still post there. started posting circa 2001
DiS is the only forum I've ever posted in, THAT's how committed I am to this place.
but that's it, I swear.
The Offspring Net Chat in around 1997. You had to press refresh all the time or it crashed the computer.
For the first few years of the festival ATP used to run its own forum but it all got a bit out of hand as Barry Hogan took every post that was even ever so slightly critical of ATP as highly personal, and started an internet war each time. Once people figured that out the floodgates really opened and every thread ended in a shouting match between Barry and the punters. Highly amusing but not very constructive.
alt.music.manics or rec.arts.animation.anime
The first instance of it was terrible - a chap called oasisfan used to spam the bord endlessly. Then it became more board like and I was pretty much the king of it.
There was a chap called jj72fan who posted endlessly and was universally despised, especially after he claimed that he was a session drummer that earned £10,000 a week and claimed to be online at Glastonbury.
I then moved to jj72.org as it was dying and everyone hated each other. I met some lovely people from there, including DiSer twentynine. I have pretty much never seen any of them again.
