Is anyone else as excited as I am by this?
Sometimes I love living in Cambridge.
but I like it.
It's a fantastic little city, and it really felt like home after three years. I'd definitely move back if it had jobs that I wanted to do...
It's the only college worth going to...
I graduated last year though. I need to go back and visit various MPhil friends soon.
I'm not saying my college now.
Trinity is surprisingly non-posh: behind it's facade, its full of horrifically keen Asian biology students and gangly pale mathmos. Now, St. Johns - that's a posh college.
and i wouldn't really mind moving there if i got a job there.
However, decent club nights and gigs are somewhat lacking. The obvious comparison to make would be oxford, which despite being a very similar place seems to somehow have far more going on in this respect.
(Health, Melt Banana, Caribou, Rolo Tomassi, Black Lips, Icarus Line, The Mae Shi, Apatt, Tubelord etc).
There is definitely not a lack of great gigs in Cambridge, especially if compared to other similar sized cities nearby (Hello, Peterborough!) The Portland Arms remains pretty much my favourite venue anywhere.
Unfortunately, there IS a definite lack of gig goers. You probably have a point with club nights though.
I was music editor of the student newspaper for a term and always thought Cambridge did pretty well gigs wise. I agree, it's club nights are quite limited (most students only want cheese, alas), but there were occasional quirky highlights, usually at Kambar. I have to admit I'm really not a clubbing person though, so it never really bothered me...
