and i thought our fans could take things too far
Seems a wierd one, I never quite thought he was a £20million player..
no way - adam's would be a fool not to, he could almost buy two new defoes for that
Although if Keane was worth 20million plus.... The premium for quality english players is massive.
Adams would be a fool to refuse that, apparently Tottenham have increased their initial offer from 5m to 16m... hmmm.
I like his cheeky face
Poopey fans are slowly watching thier glory days slip thru thier fishy fingers.....UP THE SAINTS
Defoe is the sort of player who could do with being murdered to bring him down a peg or two...
They'd then end up without their top striker striker AND without a transfer fee to buy anyone else. I think we can therefore strike anyone with business acumen off the list of suspects.
a place in the sun with Jermaine Defoe + Generic Blonde Girlfriend? It was poor telly as he was dull as dishwater
"since the filming of this programme jermaine and [whatsherface] have seperated"
He is the most mercenary player i can think of in English football
he stayed at spurs for ages and tried to get in the team til we sold him, despite him being better than darren bent.
if darren bent was keeping them out of the team
In fairness to he stayed at Spurs much longer than might have been expected - it's just that the two occasions he has decided to leave clubs he's playing regularly for he's managed to look like a rat deserting a sinking ship.
Obviously putting in the transfer request the day after West Ham went down meant that, although the likes of Cole, Johnson and (a bit later) Carrick left for bigger clubs too, he came out of it far worse than them.
And now he's leaving Portsmouth at a time when they're clearly on the wane selling players and on the decline in terms of results and ambitions. And once again, cos he's the first "big name" whose publicly known to want to leave he'll be the one who comes out of badly.
he left to go to real madrid before defoe has moved.
And at the end of the day hes doing what every other modern footballer (bar a couple does and is looking out for himself)
at spurs he stayed and fought for his place (albeit it despite it being futile) which made me respect him more than i would otherwise.
i think its just one of those things where you cant win whatever you do.
But it never became public knowledge Diarra requested a move (I've no idea what happened behind the scenes) and thus Diarra isn't criticised the same way. It's entirely hypocritical of course.
And you're right - plus ultimately footballers probably should look out for themselves. As he found out at Spurs, clubs'll drop players if they can get better players in, so why should players be loyal to clubs in the first place? It's a cutthroat business and, if you can expect it clubs to scrap players they don't think are uo to scratch then you have to expect players to scrap clubs they don't think are up to scratch too.
which is why i never get the loyalty part really, the same fans moaning about lack of loyalty would be the first to want several players out whether they happen to be not that good, or other reasons too
Gillingham will beat Villa 2-1 and MAnUnited will slaughter Soton 4-0
