So, I'm thinking of getting an xbox 360...(console n00b help)
Right, I'm doing alright financially at the moment, somehow, so I might invest in a bit of home entertainment to warm up Le Shateau with pleasing pixellated love.
Basically, I'm attracted to the 360, cause I like online gaming, and I also like the dead stupid shoot things mindlessly type of game they seem to specialise in. Plus Fifa online and Fallout look like a lot of fun. I like dipping into games for an hour or two at max, so don't judge me all ye who are going to hit back with PS3 and Wii suggestions. I'm looking for entertainment rather than depth, and as my favourite games of the past few years have pretty much all been pretty looking FPS type things, the 360 seems the right choice.
But, if I get one, I want it to be able to do most things- music/dvd player for the living room, proper online internet gaming and all that. I don't give a flying fuck about HD or Blu Ray, tbh. So how much would making it into the full monty cost, as I've been warned that the extras set you back a bit.
I am also a little confused by the hard drive bundles. What is the hard drive for? Just saving games? Or are there other purposes? I don't quite understand why an 'arcade' 360 would set me back £50 less than another type of 360?
Yeah, so halp. And suggest likely prices and any bundles you're aware of which may interest me.
oh, the last console I owned was a dreamcast
so that tells you a lot about me, I guess
that you're a man of taste
!
We have a NES
That forfils all of our entertainment requirements.
when you're not blowing into the slot to make Duck Hunt load
you're complaining about the possibility of playing crablin at Fifa every night without having to walk to his?
It's only a 5 min walk!
And his 'entertainment system' is better than my 'entertainment system'.
Stop talking about cocks.
As usual you make the conversation drop a few levels of decency.
Thanks for making this thread.
I too wish to know the answers to your questions as have been flirting with buying an xbox since they got cheaper in Zavvi.
Did you get the Panasonic TZ5 in the end? I got one yesterday! Top, top camera.
Nah, I'm waiting a little bit, it's for my 21st
Still toying with getting a digi SLR. Or maybe this beauty from Ricoh:

or maybe a Sony:

Also how cheap are sexboxes in Zavvi?
seeing as they've gone into admin
you can probably pick one up for a pound.
I went into the Zavvi
in Newcastle yesterday and everything seemed the same price!!!
well they gots to wait to see
if a buyer can be found. If not, zavvi is getting abused by my debit card. Or should that be my debit card is getting abused by zavvi?
Hi
Fallout is loads of fun, and the 360 is the natural choice if you like FPS games.
I'd get one with a hard drive- I can't remember what the bundle is called, but it's not the arcade. Zavvi have them cheapest on the high st but look around online. You can use the hard drive for storage music to play in-game, game saves, and downloading game demos.
Extras- extra controller is around £25 (see if you can get a bundle with one..)
wireless adaptor is £60ish (ouch) but you don't need one if your 360 is near your router.
And add me on xbox live when you get one.
I just brought a 60gb from game..
Cost me £180 with 2 controllers, 2 shit games and tomb raider. I sold all 3 games on ebay for £40, cos I didn't want them... So the console plus 2 controllers cost me £140. They do a bundle with one controller and fifa 09 for £170 I think, or amazon has some nice offers on.
The hard drive is pretty necessary for online gaming: downloading demos/trailers, themes, movies, xbox arcade games and for saving game details and achievments. I wouldn't really consider the arcade version if you want the online stuff.
you call it le shateau?
Yeah, I so want to stay there when I visit London.
Brilliant!
You can play on my new, upgraded 'entertainment system'!

Oh guys, it's like we've always known each other.
You'll need the one with a hard drive, trust me.
It will be useful for all your saves, any demos you download, arcade games (you can get Duke Nukem 3D now. SHAKE IT BABY!), downloadable content and that gubbins. Plus you can link it to your computer and play movies that are stored on your comp through your xbox if you want. Although, I can't get mine to link up due to both computers being at opposite ends of my room and me having wireLOLess. Plus, most games are probably really cheap now like GTA 4, Halo 3, Orange Box, even Gears 2 was listed as 26 quid on amazon.
Get one then you can join myself, harru and commanderboobs in Gears of War 2 hilarity.
shucksy
I'ma ring them up and make them fix it tomorrow
Good work.
Soon you'll be chainsawing locusts again!
they're fucking brilliant
my little brother got one for christmas, and i've basically spent the last 4 days pwning locusts on Gears of War 2, and Japs/Germans on Call of Duty: World at War.
his birthday is on Jan 2nd, and he's got Fallout coming from me, so i can't wait to play that too.
He got an "Elite" package or something with a similar name, which came with a 120GB hardrive and a months free gold xbox live subscription and Gears of War 2, which all cost something like £160. absolute bargain if you ask me. i'm considering getting one to take back to leeds with me. when you compare the quality/price to PS3's, there is no question really.
Get one with a harddisk
the memory unit you get in the arcade is really poor.
You need it for the full online experiance, game updates (vital again if you want to play it online), extra content [new maps n such], the new xbox gui would take up most the space on the unit, saves, music, movies, i'm sure the is more so im gonna comma more , , , , , ,
Go for the 60GB, sounds like that will be mroe then enough for your needs, then get Streets Of Rage 2!
get a ps3
i bought one yesterday. by the time you add in all the extras for online gaming on the x-box their isn't that much of a price difference. and most xbox games come out on the ps3 as well.
sorry to hijack the thread LBC but ive been seriously considering trading my ps3 and buying an xbox360
however! is it true that you need to buy some wireless adaptor thing if you want it to be wireless (that could probably have been worded better)
ands if so how much are they?
and also what size hard drive is best?
also is the elite really that good?
I think they're about £50-60 for the adaptor.
Hard drive- I've got on ok with the 20gb one, but only use it for saved games and demos.
nah they're getting real cheap now
around 40 quid new. i got mine for 30 quid used a year ago.
loose meaning of "real cheap" there
but you know
Ah. I thought mine was a ripoff when I got it, I don't even use it now
as my xbox is next to my router.
Might see how much another rechargable battery is.
if you're gonna get rid
i'll take it off yr hands once i finally get round to getting a tele and stuff!
was this to me?
no it wasnt.LEARN TO READ
thats what id use it for
im not gunna be storing films or anything.i really want GOW2 to play online
let us know what your gamertag is as soon as you get on live
At the moment I'm addicted to 'horde' on GOW2 - it's about the best thing ever on xbox live.
