Seeing Family At Christmas, And Their Casual Racism
It's pretty much the only thing I enjoy about this time of year, visiting the folks.
Had this conversation with my brother and his friend a short while ago:
Bro: "Rihanna is amazing, though. She's incredible."
Me: "Eh, I dunno. I wouldn't say no, but I wouldn't actively pursue her. Her forehead would distract me."
Friend: "I can see what he means, but I just don't find black women that attractive unfortunately."
Me: "Heh, yeah, you daft racist." (jokingly)
Bro: "No, I can understand what he means, like, how black girls are all really loud and annoying."
Me: "Calm down, Littlejohn, that's a bit of a generalisation."
Bro: "That's not racist, not at all, I mean, I have lots of black friends, but the thing is black girls are all really loud, they just are."
Me: "You're not serious."
Friend: "Yeah, come on, that is genuinely a bit racist."
Bro: "No, it's not! It's no different to saying that all Asians like to fight."
Me: "Holy shit. What the fuck? What about Ghandi?"
Bro: "Fucking hell, black girls are loud, and you know it, stop being so uptight!" (storms out of room)
Doesn't top my favourite casually racist moment, however - my uncle's rant two years ago against, "the Spanish and the Germans, who need a strong dictator, they can't be trusted to rule themselves, they're just a weak people without a leader and democracy doesn't work for them."
