but yeah, i hear people are pretty big on acting like a cunt to get a reaction round these parts.
Anyway, we shouldnt be focussing on the negatives!
Which DiSer is in the best band?

i don't think you're really the best judge, are you?
WHO ELSE ON DIS IS IN A POPULAR BAND?! MAYBE YOU SHOULD NAME THEM TOO! mental.

I can't be expected to keep track of all my wheelings and dealings.
I'm pretty sure I have told this lot they suck a few times as well. Nowt personal just the music is pretty lame. Apart from Brainloves newer stuff I liekd that.
Oh no wait I forgot ITS NOT REALLY BORING AND SHIT LIKE DUBSTEP IS BURN YOU ON YOU JIMI LOL!!!!!111!
I like boring dubstep and good bands so you miss out on both accounts heheh
Regardless of how bad I might think the music of some peoples' bands on here is, I have ten times the respect for them, than I do for those of you who just bitch and moan about music. There are a lot of people here (especially a lot of the younger ones, which is especially sad) that dis bands of their boardmates, but who do NOTHING themselves. I mean, like, stop bitching and start a band yourself, or write a 'zine, or put on a gig. GET OFF THE INTERNET! DO SOMETHING USEFUL!! DESTROY THE RIGHT WING!!
ps. I don't include myself in this, I'm too smug to care ;)
because YOU'RE ONE OF THEM!?!
except a crappy 45 second instrumental hip hop track
does this mean I get to whale on bands now?
and he's one of your favourites. ESSPLAIN THIS TO ME SMORT GUY.
People just don't take notice of him praising bands, because it's less entertaining.
And we're gonna make some 'zines together some time.
Those people surely deserve the greatest respect of all.
You did a radio show, right? People could do that. It's not hard. Or putting a gig on.
I don't include blogs in this, blogs are the devil.
I do the radio show because I feel like I can do something with the show that not many other people can, i.e. introduce loads of bands to them which they'll be completely unfamiliar with, and while I know that very few people listen for that purpose, it will nonetheless always be the reason I do it.
When I try to book bands, I do it because I'm fairly confident that no one will put them on if I don't (at least in Bristol), and when I write songs, I do it because I think I know how to write a song which some people would genuinely enjoy hearing (and obviously a song which no one else can write). Too many people seem to do these things just so they have some sort of connection with the 'indie' world though, or even worse, because they feel like they have some sort of *right* because of the sort of person they are - "I read Burroughs and have a stupid haircut; surely frontman of a band is my rightful position in the world!" Then they elevate that to a status above the ability to write a song and create something completely impenetrable so they can trick themselves into thinking its original and innovative rather than just shit, and when people don't like it, they can say "Well they just don't get it". And I hate that it don't think it's worth of any respect at all.
Some people might think it sounds a bit pretentious but I think I understand exactly what you're getting at.
And surely a lot of songwriting is essentially a form of personal expression and surely anything (successfully) written as a form of personal expression is going to be unique to the writer and something only they could have done in the way they'd have chosen to do it.
I'd say the thing I like most about most of my favourite songwriters (except that they write good songs) is that they get their personality across in their songs and write things only they could write.
You're in Bristol, right? You know of a band called The Dead School?
but live up here in Manc. So I can understand that. But they do play bristol a fair bit. You should give em a listen, they're pretty fucking mega.
but certainly I don't think one needs to be in a band (or promoting bands) to have a right to an opinion on music - I think the great thing with music is that it's something everyone can have an opinion on and enjoy, regardless of their talent.
And certainly I don't think forming a band is in any sense a "useful" thing to do. Enjoyable, sure, and a good band can make a few people happy but I don't think most people who form bands contribute anything hugely valuable to society as a whole by doing so (although they probably find it valuable to themselvs)
Obviously I'd agree with the idea of doing something worthwhile with your life and not simply complaining about the work of others but I'm sure there are people in DiS not in bands/acitvely involved in music and finding far more valuable uses for their time.
As I said, it's just how I feel.
I guess I'm from the "if you don't vote, don't complain about the results" school.
I question that "there are people in DiS not in bands/acitvely involved in music and finding far more valuable uses for their time", though. I mean...they're here.
she'll be suing you for infringement of copyright, you know
Stop being stupid.
your monies are safe, pigfoot
I never said you can't have opinions on them and express them without doing something similar to the thing you're criticising. That would indeed be ridiculous.
I said that, personally speaking, "Regardless of how bad I might think the music of some peoples' bands on here is, I have ten times the respect for them [and those that contribute SOMETHING to 'the music scene'] , than I do for those...who just bitch and moan about music".
I used the phrase "if you don't vote, don't complain about the results", where perhaps I should have said "rather than constantly moaning about music, why don't you do something to change things for, what you see to be, the better".
and then I could say "ONE HUNDRED SQUILLION POSTS ON DROWNEDINSOUND.COM SAY YOU DO HAVE TIME". Didn't really work out as I'd planned.
it's easier to criticise criticism than it is to actually criticise. Go on gggg, you can really make a difference!
most DiS people wouldnt like the songs we have written so far
we only have two songs at the moment though
and get our hands on recording stuff. wont be for a while though because we arent rehearsing for a few weeks whilst everyones home from uni

I mean "MRBLKRSHR"s lyrics seem hilarious compared to his banal witticisms. He beats even Paul Hawkins in a "most annoying voice" competition.
