credit crunch and all that
not with money though
in the way that i'm not getting you a restraining order
do you that feeling of arrogance?
all the present i've bought are pretty fucking awesome though
and even that's not 'complete' actually. I've got another one ordered but no idea if it's actually been sent or not. Yay!
Now I just need to hope that it all arrives on time…
i still have to buy a couple books, and something for each parent. i'm stumped this year.
dont have a clue what to buy. Im the same every year.
i have, however, set aside an hour before going to the pub on monday night to do it all in. this is pretty organised for me.
i might have managed to get like half a present in one hour.
i just buy things from HMV.
And some book for my sister from oxfam
all is done.
I was in Westfield!!!1!1
Who knew G-Star Raw sold vouchers?
i bought four. i bought my mother a goat, my father a case for his swish new phone, my brother some photographer's card reading device, and a book for a friend of mine.
Hopefully get them all wrapped this week so I'm not doing it on the day for once.
Everyone gets books! I'm pretty bad at presents when people don't give me ideas. My mother opened one of the packages they came in too. Totally the wrong one. Luckily I managed to escape having to explain it by acting outraged at her invasion of privacy etc. I wish people would have the dignity to request at least semi decent things.
i don't like knowing much more people than i did last year. i really really like giving presents and christmas shopping, but it's so hard to think of gifts for certain people :(
In that, I only bought presents for my parents and posted them in November. I am not buying anything else, or receiving anything probably. Bah humbug etc.
and I only intend to buy my sister one. What should I get her?
but I recommended my friend get his 19 year old sister Valley of the Dolls, it was re-published recently in a pretty cool hardback edition. Great book.
if so, get her a jeanette winterson book, they're pretty amazing. if not, i don't know.
the way real men shop.
get it right
I'm getting too old for this shit
no idea what to get anyone
i'm the worst present-buyer in existence
i only have to buy five though, i think
mehodor why are you doing that lame thing where people who aren't dukebox pretend to be dukebox
it's a logical impossibility
using a few philosopher-y words does not a valid argument make
Say that in a couple of years.
2nd year module of a BEng.
*Aggregate* score less than 40.
It just wasn't happening.
Partly because I had to strategically/sacrificially focus on another retake (Geotechnics) so as to be able to actually carry on and complete the course without re-doing the whole year (albeit as an 'ordinary' degree with no honours).
Partly cos it was hard as nails.
Partly cos I didn't dig the subject and so didn't put the effort in over the year, electing to watch the Footy League highlights programme dead late on the night before the subject's lectures.
I got over it.
Failure ain't a problem if you learn from it.
Unfortunately I'm just not learning from wasting my time on the internet at 3am when I've got to be up for work at 7am. I'm knackered. Why am I doing this to myself?

(Art History fail thread)
However, I think I've had a decent idea.
This year my family's doing an "austerity Christmas", not because we're *that* short on money (well, my parents aren't, but I'm skint), but because we all suddenly realised none of us really liked the stress of buying presents. So the idea is this year everyone gets only one present for everyone, but it has to be thoughtful and special and that rather than a book or DVD.
My mum's been dabbling in genealogy recently, as people of a certain age are often to do. I have a friend who took one of those DNA migration tests, which tells you how much of each major ethnic group you're descended from. She thought her family was pure Basque Spanish, but turns out that she was 60% Han Chinese.
So I figure I might see about getting one done for both my parents (no point doing myself or my brother, as every generation down dilutes the accuracy). No idea what kind of test to do or where to get it, or how to afford it (they cost over a hundred each I believe) - but it'll certainly be unique, right? Good idea?
but it's not going to be cheap
I think Oxford Ancestors are the leaders at this kind of thing. Looks like they've got an offer on, too:
I've got next to no money for New Year or to just live on for the next 4 weeks now
that's fine though, you know, it's not like, erm, not like i got you anything.
