'Few people are innocent'
Never a truer word spoken
Have you ever seen a dogs face after it's been caught chomping on it's own shit?
Why does my dog look embarrassed when shitting in public?
human emotions onto an animal.
if not a set of learned reactions to breaching rules?
a dog cannot (under conventional thinking) consider anything, whereas it can react, and indeed learn to react in appropriate manner. It cannot consider which response or reaction is, in its opinion, the correct response to an ethical dilemma.
you might even catch it glancing over it's dog shoulder before it dines. It thinks, "if I eat this I could get in trouble, but it looks so good".
Anyway, dogs aren't as smart as apes who can certainly make moral judgements.
I suppose you imagine the dog looking at his shit and thinking 'oh, if only I had a bit of foie gras and a nice chianti to accompany this, and a touch of cumin to bring out the fibrous content of my excretion. I didn't eat all of that willow bark yesterday afternoon for nothing! Ah well, I'd best make do with what I have, hopefully we can watch Bridge Over the River Kwai this afternoon, with master'
About the dogs anyway, apes are a different kettle of fish. Bonobos in particular are pretty remarkable.
They know the difference between simple human interpretations of right and wrong just like we do. If they get in trouble for doing something once or twice, they will think about not doing it again. Otherwise dogs would just shit all over the place and would not make good pets. And no, this is not simply learnt behaviour.
Humankind is not half as superior as most people like to make out.
We should adhere to it. Failure to do so is a breach of an ingrained moral consensus. Failure to do so also means you're a neanderthal.......in which case, you can live on seeds and shelter in huts made of excrement..........while rodgering your misses up the 'tonka'
In much the same way as a child uses instinct and the guiding hands of their parents
"like Jesus to a child"
in our midst.
they are allowed to murder and eat other animals.
they are allowed to have multiple sexual partners - some possibly underage and unwilling
so you say animals do these things because they are oblivious to right/wrong. I say I don't bother giving money to animal charities because they are oblivious to right/wrong.
A dog isn't going to grow up to be a self-harmer because it was treat badly as a puppy. Saying that though, I don't know what animals are thinking in their heads.
Basically, I give to human charities because I can empathise with people but struggle to empathise with alsatians.
They process pain in exactly the same way as humans.....and this innate impulse can lead to anguish and acute distress.
Just because they can't mentally calculate the moral conundrums involved in activities doesn't mean they arn't able to feel baser emotions.
but if there was a dog lying on the street with a broken leg and a baby lying on the street with a broken leg, anyone who chooses to help the dog first has major issues, and not just of What Car magazine.
Why should we value human life more than animal?
but I just innately do. I'm not really an animal lover either to be honest.
It's like when women leave all their money to kittens, I just can't get my head around it.
It's not a view that I subscribe to. Humans are just annoying animals so they receive no special treatment from me.
due to higher levels of self awareness.
A creature without the mental capacity for evil does not have the mental capacity for innocence.
But kittens are so sweet
some are cunts.
they're only innocent because they're a bit thicker than humans
cause i really don't want to
The younger male terrier repeatedly rapes the old terrier - innocent - I think not
I made it sit on my lap all day long
is a vicious, miserable fucking bitch that will take a mile if given an inch, as any David Attenborough documentary would have told you.
they cant concieve of such "second order evils". Pain isn't lost on them though. The only reason we should treat them well is cos we're better than them.
filled with animal rights posters that make me ashamed to give a shit because of their sheer banality.
picture the scene: illustration of man hitting fox with club, caption reads "Your fur coat will be ready shortly, madam".
you should draw a hitler tache on him,*and* the fox
Israe-HELL on it somewhere
They do murder, eat and rape other animals. How would an animal be capable of evil? You can't say that all animals are innocent if there's no way to gauge it, innocence is a man made concept anyway.
I don't think it's possible, they don't have the mental capacity.
Let's rap this thread up
but I like having my opinion posted on here, makes me feel important.
