I'm tempted. It's the final frontier. Way more scary than being in a band and playing live.
Revered but Riotous is a stand-up and a comedy writer. He doesn't post very often though.
i mean, what's social about it? we're all just locked in our rooms alone, right?
but yes. Yes we are.
than doing this assignment... strange that.
The problem is I can be quite funny commenting on something that happens around me, but I rubbish at coming up with stuff from scratch.
Also when I talk at length I just start winding myself up, shouting, losing my train of thought, and undoubtedly, talking about the second world war
except scarier and less cross-dressy
Rub the lamp and you appear!
Like the Masons.
used to bug my friend Daryl and I to write stuff for his standup. He didn't seemed to realise that inane, weed-fuelled, in-jokey student bollocks isn't funny to anyone other than those who either know the people involved or are feeble-minded Boosh fans.
I love standups who fail and get all pissy though, so do that.
I know someone who does stand-up gigs. He spends days shitting himself beforehand, but then he goes on and everyone loves it and he feels amazing about himself. Me, I'm happy experiencing neither fear nor elation.
My boss told me one Friday that she'd signed me up for an open mic slot at somewhere local to her for that weekend. As much as I'd shit at it, I'd be doubly shit at it if it were sprung on me with 48 hours notice
Preparation, innit? Shirley even the best stand-ups had more than 48 hours notice to come up with some sort of material. Didn't fancy standing up there for 5 minutes waiting for the shaking to stop and coming out with 'So... anyone here from Alton*?'
*It was going to be in Alton
It wasn't my idea dude, I hadn't once paid it any thought. Like someone else somewhere said it's kinda funny sometimes bantering with mates but I've never once thought that I could entertain a crowd of people when I'm the centre of attention. If I was to start jotting stuff down it would just end up being an A4 pad of knob doodles
See? You've either got it, or you don't got it
Life is more than sitting in an office and being in a stuggling band. It's about sitting in an office and being a stuggling comic as well.
You'd still be better than Jimmy Carr
but I'm not sure I've got the confidence to do it. I'd like to give it a go though.
