some people near me are having this conversation, and one person is immensely surprised that the other has never shoplifted.

I've never shoplifted anything. My little brother confessed to me recently that him and his friends used to dare each other to steal from our local shop, which kind of upset me as we knew the owner as I worked there when I was younger. I told him he was a tool and it was nothing to be proud of.
