The Manchester congestion charge <spinoffcentric>
Yay? Nay? I've no idea, I'm usually the sort of liberal idiot who thinks that "tax + environmental causes = win" but I'm sort of selfishly sceptical because public transport is actually ace where I live (Withington) and I think the charge might be affecting my girlfriend's daily drive to Salford Quays, so effectively she'll be paying £3.50 a day to subsidise a fancy new metro line to the wealthiest area in town (the line runs to East Didsbury, right?) even though there's already loads of buses running from there AND a train station. Could two smart people have a row about this so that I can pick the opinion I like best and then recite it to people the next time I'm asked about my thoughts on this?
