That's a fact for you fact fans.
*teams currently competing in the Uefa (Europa) Cup or Champions League.
they're just nowhere near as good as they or the fans think they are. Any team where a star player is Lee Naylor or Samaras isn't much
as for Naylor, I'll just forget you even said that.
the amount of times I've heard Celtic fans raving about Naylor, forgetting he was a below-average defender for an average team at the time when they bought him.
And bad luck doesn't mean a record of 1 draw and about 54 losses away
I don't know any Celtic fans who rave about Naylor. A lot of the Celtic fans I know want rid of him.
I'm referring to this season for bad luck, not previous seasons.
You're talking nonsense.
you're like a dad who comes home from watching his team lose and batters his wife.
I think it'd be a little rougher than that.
Seriously though, how many Celtic fans have told you Lee fucking Naylor is our star player?
He's not even out best left back...Mark Wilson is...and he's a right back!
Star players: Aiden McGeady and Artur Boruc.
I've been comforting my boyfriend! They aren't rubbish as they have had decent results against top teams (man utd- beaten last season , point this year at home) and they have drawn at the nou camp.
and if they were forced to play in the premier league, they'd be fighting it out with middlesborough and tottenham.
no offense, but they rarely progress out the group stages of the champions league, and they play in the scottish football system.
I love artur boruc though.
Uefa Cup final in 2003
all this with an income similar to most Championship sides.
A global fanbase
Consider the finances you have compared to the other ten teams of the diddy league youre playing in eh
(60,000 each week by the way)
you're an inconsequential club built on bigotry.
should be thankful Celtic get in saying they're in a 2 team league.
And if you're just referring to this season, mention it then
which it is not
it's a competition for the richest teams from the richest league with a few lucky qualifiers thrown in.
such as porto, monaco and bayern leverkusen made the final in the last few years then?
especially when they got to the final
the richest teams from the richest leagues, which was your point.
*financially these teams are likely to be better off
*all are from higher calibre leagues so attract better players
*luck, lots and lots of luck
you'd be on a very similar level of finances - particularly with your global and oft-surprisingly large fanbase who spend regularly on replica shirts and other merch.
probably brings in money from the East which other teams won't have
in the world.
In terms of the Champions League, they eclipse a large number (more than half) of this year's last 32 competitors.
That's PROFIT not TURNOVER.
Just think, if you diverted some money away from profit for a few seasons, brought in a few players and took things on a step, you could try and do something worthwhile in Europe and make some more money!
I'm not being bitchy here. I really like Celtic. I'm just disagreeing with your "oh man we're so hard done by" argument.
okay...i sort of was
i think once we clear our debt we'll be able to splash out a bit more but it's so hard to find the calibre of player that going to take us to the next step without spending many, many millions but these sort of players don't want to play in the SPL
they were pretty unlucky though, right?
but when it comes to competing against sides stronger than the 11 they take on domestically...well, they just can't really cut it. Going on about how they lack the finances or pull of other big clubs is a tad pointless and tautological really.
fair do's last night a couple of mad goals but celtic had the chance to have the game won by half time and wasted their chances.
The rest of the away games in champions league they have by and large been outplayed by superior opposition and i know few celtic fans who would put it down to bad luck.
As much as i pissed myself laughing last night i was thinking to myself that its a real mental block for celtic. While they generally come up against superior opposition they have had their chances and none more so than last night.
If you don't take your chances in champions league then forget it, especially the kind of chances samaras and nakamura had!
remember in the home game against Aalborg, we had a perfectly good goal chalked off and ended up drawn nil nil. bastards.
oh well...just another episode of Celtic's inability to win on their travels in the champions league.
this was perhaps the easiest oppertunity, even easier than Copenhagen, Rosenborg or Anderlect.
Aalborg are a very average team (of course that says a lot about Rangers) and to take 1 point from 6 against them is very poor indeed.
Samaras had a bad night at the office, i would have hooked him at half time as he was clearly off the pace and nakamura was bought for nights like that in the champions league.
the polar opposite of Liverpool in Europe over the last few years then in terms of good fortune?
Those daft jocks - anyone who has samaras as their number 9 deserves getting knocked out. They are terrible. Continually banging on, 'oh we are just as good as the premiership' yeah nice one you clowns.
It's not really a joke considering we are a small country.
It's not "those daft jocks" but "those daft Old Firm Fans". The rest of us are pointing and laughing.
But yeah, they are clowns.
Celtic should have had Aalborg buried by the first half and the fact that they didn't is down to the fact that they weren't good enough. It had nothing to do with luck, and everything to do with being nowhere near as good as their over-inflated expectations of themselves.
I love seeing the Old Firm getting spanked in Europe. Can't wait to see the papers this morning. I'm hoping for some broken club crest pictures.
The greatest club in Glasgow, and quite possibly the world.
you're certainly the greatest club in the first division.
I thank you for your kind words.
and i wish you good luck for the remainder of the season.
I was talking with a drunken st johnstone fan the other week and i would like them to get pumped!
We shagged them 4-0 at the start of the season, then they returned the shagging a few weeks ago at their midden. You can't predict a single result, it's mental.
I reckon they might go up this year though.
