What? Nobody likes him!
'So I went into a WH Smiths... I suppose you've got them here in Long Eaton? WH Smiths... and they've started doing computer magazines! Computer magazines! If I wanted to read about computers, surely i'd get a computer to read it on? Ha ha ha (laughs at his own 'mirth') What next? Magazines on computers?'
The worst comedian that ever existed.
That probably just means his mum (or more likely, himself) bought a copy at 9.01 in HMV.
Your mum wants you to marry him. She likes his posh boy rosy cheeks and false smile.
His father was Ray Cameron, who wrote with Barry Cryer for Kenny Everett.
My mum likes him too.
I'm pretty sure Kenny didn't impregnate anyone.
People like comedy that makes you say "It's funny cos it's true!". Fuck thinking about things. Also the fact that MM is on EVERY single TV show going has boosted his profile no end.
So he does kinda like what you've done in this post here, but for the purposes of amusement rather than being smug?
What does "fuck thinking about things" even mean anyway? I mean, I kinda know already because if I hadn't thought about it, I never would have got the idea to ask what it actually meant.
Is why Peter Kay, Lee Evans et al are massively popular. They are good at what they do but their comedy does nothing to progress the art of stand up. They simply compile an hour of things the audience already know into a series of jokes and anecdotes.
I wasn't being smug at all, I like MM. The reason he has had a well seeling stand up DVD is not that he is outstandingly talented, it's because the audience is easily pleased. Same way Razorlight, Coldplay and Kaiser Chiefs sell truck loads of albums.
"They are good at what they do but their comedy does nothing to progress the art of stand up. They simply compile an hour of things the audience already know into a series of jokes and anecdotes."
I never thought about that before. When you think about it that's probably why audiences go "Haha!" after their gags, rather than "Eh?"
Get over yourself. People in making other peope laugh shocker!
Just to re-iterate I like Michael Macintyre, I like lots of comedians from traditional gag tellers like Jack Dee to innovators like Demetri Martin. The OP stated that nobody likes MM and I said 'actually they do for these reasons.....' Apparently I am just an obnoxious smug tit who needs to get over himself. Oops.
he is ok sometimes I guess, he just needs to be a bit less anoying or something.
Is this one of those weird comedy things that's passed me by, like the fact that Lee Evans is still going and keeps selling out Wembley Arena or something?
but he can also be very funny. Still finding his feet, I think. I liked his Royal Variety set a couple of years ago. "What are nooks and crannies? You never get a cranny without a nook, do you? You never get bobs without bits. No one ever says 'Okay, I want you to put all the bits in a pile over there and all the bobs in another pile over there.'"
He's just addressing a quirk of language. And everyone knows quirks of language = the best thing in the world. Why can't you be hevelled? Why can't you be dehabilitated? Mental.
What would you call a single hundreds'n'thousands?
Why is the alphabet in that order?
[various things Jerry Seinfeld has said] + [delivery]
I could never work out if I was giving him too much credit with that.
but he was very funny on that. Probably the funniest person I've seen on it. I'd like to see his stand-up show.
but they're both very funny.
stewart lee is one of thsoe comedians who isnt funny. Hes takes mildly funny ideas for stories and tries to stretch them out into 5min jokes with no punchline
Very very funny and lovely. I want to give him a big hug.
because hes pretty funny. Anyone who doesnt laugh at this is dead inside...
The smug thing isnt annoying at all. Jerry Seinfeld was massively smug aswell, its kinda funny, not everyone has to do deadpan.
salright, not amazing though
He's pretty funny.
Seinfeld was a dreadful stand-up.
Seinfeld was the John Paul Jones of comedy: Deceptively simple. It was even a running gag on the series that you could boil down his material to "So, what's the deal with airline peanuts?", but if you've ever seen his act at length, there's just that little seam of expert delivery + genuine originality that easily explains why he's so fucking rich now, and why every once in a while, you can hear little bits of his act in every other comedian's mouth.
preferably with something heavy
He's funny to an extent.
I just find it hard to get passed his "aren't I hilarious" facial expression.
I take it he's no good.
He's annoying, occasionally funny. He's been on Mock the Week and Rich n Jude if memory serves. He tries to copy Pryor's use of characters and fails miserably.
