one of my friends whose name is patrick, well irish people like to call people who go by the name of patrick 'packy'. like packie bonner.
this was all good and well until one weekend we spent in leeds and got a taxi back from a club with a pakistani driver. an unfortunate misunderstanding ensued.
another of my friends has had the nickname 'tinker' since school. i have no idea why actually, but nobody ever calls him anything else. i've tried calling him 'itinerant' but it just sounds daft.
