MAKE IT PARENTHETICAL GIRLS.
MAYBE THEY'RE NOT MY CUP OF TEA!
I'm not sure on them.
They played the new album on the old setup and the songs suddenly made perfect sense. Those arrangements kind of harm the songs massively.
That's what they sound like live. I reviewed it on here years ago. It's the only time I ever got to describe a band as 'menstrual'.
about the new songs on the old setup. i wasn't sure how they were going to reproduce the expansive orchestration of the new album but it worked perfectly. glad to see the glockenspiel is still there.
i knew i'd get a little pang of regret.
I haven't welled up with wonder at a gig since Joanna Newsom played Ys right through with an orchestra.
you cry when your girlfriend strokes your thigh?
You've lost me a little there boy wonder.
I don't even know who they are but I'm watching them on Thursday.
I was going to go to Manchester alone and everything but depleting funds are preventing me from doing such a thing. :''''''(
or I would no doubt go as its the tiger trap peeps.
I wasn't that impressed with the songs on myspace though, but I have a feeling they would have won me over live.
i'm in manchester on thursday night. should i mission it over to leeds? hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
i'm going over to manchester on friday afternoon too so we can share the same horse.
do it anyway. its only hourandhalf to leeds.
AND ITS PARENTHETICAL GIRLS.
i don't wanna be stranded in leeds!
or something like that time. Basically as a rule you can usually get back to Manc from Leeds or Liverpool after a gig. Though if it's at the Brudenell in Leeds you may have to get a taxi.
that Trash, the place its at, is literally a stone's throw from the train station.
and tiger trap is going to be brilliant. i'm djing.
but I feel like I should spend less on gigs and music plus it would mean going by my lonely self because no one around here seems interested :-(.
But bear in mind that Parenthetical Girls have never played in the UK before tonight and are on teeny Tomlab, and that Nick Cave lives in Brighton and is on moneyed Mute.
Are this band good? they're not playing in edinburgh or even glasgow apparently, so oh well.
It's obvious what I mean.
You said they were on a smaller label
What I meant was that Nick Cave is a big operation, that his album is massively well supported, that he will play ENgland countless more times and that he'll be rinsing festivals all summer and generally, you know, being Nick Cave.
Parenthetical Girls, however, are on a small label with a presumably small budget for flying bands around the world on a regular basis, and have never played the UK to support either of their earlier albums, and so may not be back for quite a while.
i thought for a second you were suggesting i go and see PG out of charity
I'm not absolutely sure what I mean by that. This strand of the thread is fraught with confusion.

I forget yes_ isn't in Glasgow no more.
I'm wasting my prime in the capital.
Thomas just asked me to a cross dressing party. What's the capital doing to him!?
i'm SO excited for tomorrow now, even if it involves going to Cardiff all on my lonesome. yay!
Mental. What time are you leaving? You want me to walk you down to the train station? xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
wow, they're not playing anywhere near me. brighton could work. hmm.
but, i didn't really expect it to be my thing... so maybe it is good, i just dont like it? i dunno, i'm tired.
will take some beating
But seriously, I thought that the band could be a lot better than the lead singer let them be. I know that you like Of Montreal, and I'm guessing that you like the Decemberists too, but it was too close to an affected impression of both of them for me to connect with the live performance.
I was pretty much transfixed by him the whole time.
Totally different feel to Kevin Barnes.
I'm not a big Decemberists fan, bores me a bit.
Didn't enjoy High Places live. Haven't really listened to enough elvrum.
What a good night :)
JE SUIS UTR
high places were wack
mt eerie was nice but very disappointing - i saw you walking off a few songs into the set :)
subject matter, poetry, delivery and sound palette selection. I just find it totally overwhelming. Always have.
so the first two i can't vouch for. delivery i liked certainly. sounds were fairly interesting, but didnt do all that much for me particularly. was def good tho
And the way they all changed instruments was great for once. And 'I Was A Dancer' couldn't have been any better. And they knew what their best songs were and played them all - lots of bands seem oddly incapable of this. And the new songs sounded 100x better with the oddball arrangements.
That was spot fucking on in every way.
They played Stolen Children!!11!!1!!!
i was bored senseless by them, and so was my girlfriend who is a huge fan and has been wanting to see them for ages.
of a Parenthetical Girls album on the train the other day. It was some really bleak shit about a mother hating her daughter for destroying her body. Didn't quite fit my mood at the time but it sounded interesting, I'll revisit it at some point.
which album do you have? I was totally 'meh' about safe as houses for a while, but i found myself listening to it more and more without realising i actually liked it a lot, and now i listen to it LOADS and it's awesome. I'm really sad they're not playing scotland :( i'd love to see them.
I think I must have got it from Paul last year.
real good :) you'll like it i promise! Just like i EVENTUALLY liked the national about a year after you sent me 'Baby, We'll Be Fine' :D
I thought it seemed a bit forced and uncomfortable. But I hadn't heard them before, if that makes a difference.
High Places were pretty cool, and Mt Eerie was brilliant.
He's drilling next door. DRILLING.
I'm going for a cold shower.
Some of these goons actually preferred Mount Yawnie.
I need to gush about this show for posterity.
I'm gonna say.. yes.
i am SO exctied for thursday. anyone in the leeds area/can make it to leeds COME TO SEE THEM. they are going to be fucking amazing. and nestor is seeing them three times this year, the lucky sod.
walkingwithwolves posts as dicko SHOCKER.
EVERYONE COME! the middles one and mat riviere are supporting, so you get three amazing bands for your money!
8pm! (i think)
I wanna beeee therrrrreeeeeee
(this is lauren, not adam)
I DOUBT THIS PREMISE
i might just log in as dickhead.
errrr, that the bus to the blue lagoon takes about 50 mins?
Stop murdering the thread you / you two.
i'm going back to my quitter status, i'm just so excited about thursday and adam mentioned it was on here, i'm keeping him logged in though. justincase. x
can we put some PG on next?
but they dont seem to be venturing up to Scotland soon.
