at Argos. It's 1st gen but it's a bargain.
this 1st gen includes the software update so it runs the same software as the 2nd gen.
I guess design-wise it's slightly different - there's no volume controls on the side or built-in speaker.
"The iPod touch was a revelation when it was introduced a year ago: an iPhone without the phone, a wish come true for geeks everywhere who had already signed their lives away to Verizon or Sprint. The improvements that come with the touch 2G are minor—a built-in speaker, a barely-thinner contour, and the useful-if-not-mind-blowing Genius feature [included in the 1G's software update]. Nevertheless, they're something, and when you improve a five-star product, you get, well, an even-better five-star product. Sorry, folks, that's as high as we go."
how would it have better sound quality?
different parts, a more refined operating structure, tweaking of various digitalised issues in the programming. Who knows? But apparently the v2 has a much richer sound than the v1 with improved fidelity, according to people who know about this sort of thing
improvements with these things are thanks to software. but the software is identical between the two. v2 may have better sound than an stock v1. doesn't mean it has better sound than a v1 that has been updated.
but each variation of the iPod seems to be physically different from it's last permutation, whether it be via a new DAC, improved connections whatever, and most audio geeks will argue that every version of the iPod sounds different from the previous one (out of the headphone out at least). It really wouldn't surprise me if the same thing had happened between the v1 and v2 of the Touch - i think Apple went as far as saying that the first Touch was a work in progress (and it was certainly a big step forwards for them)
I'm using a 2G Nano at the moment so I guess the 1G Touch will be an improvement on that.
will ever be a bargain.
play decent games
watch video on a large screen
Moreover you can get one for 'free' if you buy enough Coca-Cola at the supermarket.
It is cool. Get a second gen one, it is much better.
it's also about 80 quid more expensive (I want a 16GB - I've got an 8GB Nano and have to keep taking stuff off to put new stuff on).
Argos are giving away a £10 gift card when you spend over £100.
Just bought mine.
are they really all that?
