What site do you use to 'acquire' music

Captain_Robot [Edit] [Delete] 33 replies 23:43, 7 November '08

I have used Soulseek for many years without a hitch but all of a sudden it's stopped working for me. What do the kids use nowadays?

P.S save your moralising

  • Google Blogsearch is a great tool for finding music

as it searches blogs for tags and such, though some of these cunty websites provide rapidshare links but this is best avoided by not typing any file searching websites in the search along with the album.

        common,what are the alternatives?
walk to the record store, check there, may not have it
        ring record store,ask to order it,wait a week,probably longer
        order off teh internet,wait a week,probably longer
OR,use google to find yrself the album, and then download it

        • 'using p2p software isn't the best, quickest, safest or easiest was to do it.'

          its the quickest,yeah?

          doodthatkicksarse @kissinginkansas | 8 Nov '08, 00:08 | X
          • the google way seems quicker

when I used any sort of p2p software it took days, weeks and sometimes just never finished downloading. But I think I was doing it wrong

            crashinglikeamouse @kissinginkansas | 8 Nov '08, 00:11 | X
            • Yeah, downloading stuff in general might be the quickest way of getting it

but using SoulSeek is definitely not the quickest way to download stuff.

              Zapsta @crashinglikeamouse | 8 Nov '08, 00:15 | X
              • It's the most comprehensive though

                Zapsta @kissinginkansas | 8 Nov '08, 00:03 | X
                • SoulSeek generally has stuff I can't find elsewhere?

                  Otherwise I'd get it elsewhere.

                  • No

                    • Have you checked the soulseek website?

Every so on they update the software and older versions stop working. Could be you just need to download a newer one.

                      Or just use Vuze azureus.sourceforge.net/

                      • Ever since i changed to wireless it's been fucking up

there's some shit about routers and everything but i'm far too much of a luddite to understand what the fuck they're talkin about, willis

                        Captain_Robot @Rockefeller | 7 Nov '08, 23:57 | X
                        • Yeah, you'll need to open a router port

Try putting one of these into your web browser address bar:
                          192.168.1.1
                          192.168.0.1
                          192.168.2.1

                          • That much i can understand

i don't really know what i'm sposed to do once i've done that. Port Forwarding and all that jazz.

                            Captain_Robot @Zapsta | 8 Nov '08, 00:05 | X
                            • Can you see options for port forwarding?

If you open SoulSeek, there should be something somewhere which tells you which port SoulSeek is using. Then go to 'Forward port' or whatever it says when you go to the router address and type in the number of the port which you got from SoulSeek. It might seem confusing, but if you piss about with your router settings for a bit, it shouldn't be too hard to work out exactly what to do.

                              • Cheers man

I'll have a mess around with this tomorrow

                                Captain_Robot @Zapsta | 8 Nov '08, 00:23 | X
                    • Soulseek stopped working for me ages ago,

I've downloaded the newest version as well, still doesn't work. Starting to think my ISP has blocked it, somehow.

                      untrue | 7 Nov '08, 23:55 | X
                    • I've got a neat little system

I only have an ipod/record player so I 'acquire' them by searching google for the album and then add megaupload on the end. THEN if I really like the album Ill buy it on vinyl with the added bonus of lovely big artwork

                      crashinglikeamouse | 8 Nov '08, 00:04 | X
                      • download utorrent

google artist/band names followed by 'torrent'
                        download
