I'm in protest against our "pink" day at work

GalacticStar3ruption [Edit] [Delete] 86 replies 08:55, 5 November '08

I felt that I was being forced into taking part, so I'm not bothering. Freedom of choice and all of that. I'm also not paying the extra you're supposed to if you don't wear pink.

  • Well, the eventual destruction of capitalism has to start somewhere

Sorry, I feel like I've entered this subplot a few pages late. Why are you being cajoled into wearing pink, and which charity is it you're intent on sticking it to?

    simon_t | 5 Nov '08, 09:09 | X
  • Not a fan of breast cancer awareness then?

I understand. We all have our crosses to bear and personally, I hate those people bashing on about AIDS.

Oh no, hang on, you're a massive, massive douchebag.

    • If I want to give to charity, I'll do so

I'm not being forced into taking part. There really isn't anything else I can say.

      GalacticStar3ruption @crablin | 5 Nov '08, 09:18 | X
      • Whilst I see where you're coming from

How much is it to not wear pink? Is a donation of that size really going to affect your life? No. Of course it isn't. Pay up, in fact pay double for being a mardy twat about it.

        sadpunk @GalacticStar3ruption | 5 Nov '08, 09:20 | X
        • Not the issue

In fact I might sneak some money in there without anyone noticing. Then it can seem as though I'm still protesting against it.

          GalacticStar3ruption @sadpunk | 5 Nov '08, 09:23 | X
          • You should wear a Rage Against The Machine T-shirt while you do it

          • Dear The Man,

            I'm sticking it you!

            Love, Frank.

      • you utter cunt

this is the lowest attempt to 'stick it to the man' i've encountered in a long time.

fair enough choosing not to wear pink, but to go and boast about it on an internet messageboard - that's where the true douchebaggery shows.

        josh @GalacticStar3ruption | 5 Nov '08, 09:53 | X
        • How am I boasting?

What are you on about you idiot? You've just made that up without any substance whatsoever.

          GalacticStar3ruption @josh | 5 Nov '08, 10:05 | X
  • Yeah, it's freedom of choice

but it also makes you sound like a tool.

    lemonbrickcombo | 5 Nov '08, 09:26 | X
  • You should've had a rational argument ready for when they came asking

such as the amount of money raised for breast cancer research when compared to amount of people who contract it over other cancers and diseases is disproportionate (sp?) in the favour of breast cancer. This is mainly due to excellent marketing and awareness raising. Therefore, you are donating your pound to Diabetes UK/testicular cancer research/your choice of debilitating disease.

    gowman | 5 Nov '08, 09:31 | X
    • This is absolutely brilliant

I don't know the facts exactly but I'm assuming you're right, breast cancer gets way more press than other cancers, other forms seem to get rejected in comparison.

      GalacticStar3ruption @gowman | 5 Nov '08, 09:35 | X
      • It's not brilliant at all

that people are unware of how ill and debilatating some illness and diseases are and that more money needs to go into research for new and better treatments.

Breast cancer has done a great job of raising awareness of the disease, especially through the use of celebrity and mainstream media.

Do yourself a favour, stop whinging about giving a couple of quid to breast cancer and put some money in the tin. Then set about arranging your own dressed in black for cot death awareness day or something, that way the rest of the people in your office can have no objections.

        gowman @GalacticStar3ruption | 5 Nov '08, 09:40 | X
        • I'm clearly not emo enough to feel guilt over not giving to a charity

If it was me, and I have done it, I would just say "no thank you, I already give to a number of charities" and that would be that. If anyone presses you, all you have to say to them is that it's personal and I don't want to discuss it. I know where I give me money and who to so that's all that matters.

Personally, for the sake of a couple of quid and the joy of being in a happy office without upsetting Linda in accounts who's sister died of breast cancer last week, I'd give the money.

          gowman @Bamnan | 5 Nov '08, 09:55 | X
          • Maybe you could set-up a charity to carry out research into

            an overactive conscience.

            gowman @Bamnan | 5 Nov '08, 10:01 | X
          • Well that part isn't brilliant, no

            I meant your idea

            GalacticStar3ruption @gowman | 5 Nov '08, 09:51 | X
          • Are you a bit hard up for cash at the moment?

How much extra have you got to pay?

            shucks | 5 Nov '08, 09:40 | X
            • Nope, I've got more money than I've ever had

although I am saving at the moment.

I just don't like the fact that people expect you to pay, where's the freedom of choice? I'll pay money to charity if I want to, when I want to and they can't make me pay extra just because I'm not wearing pink. I don't own any pink and I don't live with anyone who owns pink.

Like I said up there ^ to someone else I might sneak the money in anyway, but pretend I haven't and still be in protest against the idea.

                  • Seriously though

who the fuck isn't aware of breast cancer?
There are mass efforts for screening, huge amounts of information available and billions of pounds of research going into this field. In fact thanks to the stupidity of the general population and a campaign led by the daily mail (who'd have though it?) you can now get Trastuzumab (Herceptin) for absolutely free! This being a drug that for every one patient's life it saves causes another 25 to develop Heart Disease (due to nasty side effects). The heart disease very often resulting in death itself. All for £35,000 per patient!

                    • wouldnt it just be easier to say that your wearing pink 'underneath' and call everyones bluff?

then there would be no need for everyone to 'get angry with frank'
(that seems like that could make a new euphemism.

                    • Jesus

What a pathetic attempt to 'make a stand'. And what a thing to make a stand against! Take that, cancer awareness!

Get over yourself and give them a few quid. It might be within your 'freedom of choice' not to, but only a miserly cunt would wish to make such a loathsome choice. Oh, and everyone you work with now thinks you're a miserly cunt, whether you rescind or not.

                    • why do some of the characters on this board seem more and more like caricatures as time passes?

                      • pay up

why would you begrudge giving a few quid to a good cause? i don't buy the 'freedom of speech maaaaaan' arguement.

stop acting like a moody kid. it's important to pull together, conform and get along otherwise you'll end up a sad tosser for the rest of your life. everyone in your your office must think that you're a massive bellend.
