Advice wanted re. moving to a new location in London.
I only moved down to London at the beginning of the year, and haven’t yet explored every corner of the city, so London DiDers, I need your advice:
At the moment I live in Leytonstone and it’s pretty much perfect as I work near London Bridge (35mins door to door), and tend to go out in the Dalston/Shoreditch areas or the West End. It’s also pretty cheap, with a massive room, decent sized house and big garden for £450. Plus, I like Leytonstone.
Unfortunately, for various reasons, it looks like my office will be moving to Putney in the New Year. This will more than double my commute, and I really can’t cope with that, especially as it’s the ‘wrong’ side of Earl’s Court on the District line.
So I need to find somewhere else to live that is within easy reach of Putney, but also makes an easy trip to gigs, friends etc., achievable. Putney is on the train line from Waterloo too (15minutes), so I’m leaning towards Elephant and Castle (I lived there briefly the other year and didn’t find it as horrid as other people think), Lambeth, Clapham Junction or Vauxhall. I know that I’m going to end up paying more rent than I currently am, but I’ve been able to save more than I’d planned for over the past year, so I can’t really complain.
Has anyone ever lived in these areas before? If so, what are they like? Can anyone recommend anywhere else? And please don’t say Chelsea or something silly.
Thanks for the help, much appreciated.
