needless to say he was shocked and didn't appreciate the satire. Old folks eh?
he thinks you slept with your sister now?
this joke is funny because it challenges the audience to really consider the nature of satire, as well as possessing shock value in the implied incest. It's multi-tiered.
I will one day be a stand up comedien who explains to the audeince why they just laughed. It will be funny AND informative.
But it got better in the second half. Could you be better than that, yes_?
Gervais is a pretty sub-par stand up, if we're being honest. I'm writing a stand up show to go LIVE here in edinburgh in 2011. It's a work in progress, along with my album, play and collection of short stories that are all debuting as part of the 2011 edinburgh fringe festival.
i've got connections, i could probably get it done. I want to do an album first. What happens when you want to create stuff but you're afraid of being sincere because the sound of your own voice on tape disgusts you and if people hated it you couldn't say "well it was a joke"? Should I take the dive and try to crawl out of this manhole from the sewers of sarcasm?
i like thedailybumbler, he's good if a little tenuous sometimes.
it could be, and i'd love it to be, but it won't be. Not unless i can find a "partner" who is outgoing enough to organise all of it, show the real initiative etc then I can just inject pessimism and shouting into it.
