Had one of the weirdest nights of my life last night.
After being woken up at four in the morning by a fire alarm, I discovered my kitchen had been on fire. The fire brigade came and informed us that the fire had been caused deliberatly in a malicious manner. Turned out that an item had been placed on each of the eight rings on the two hobs and turned on full (stuff like scissors, an orange, plastic tupperware, etc), a lighter had been cooking in the microwave and tea towel in the oven.
After a lot of questioning by the police and one of my flatmates being held in a police cell van (seemed susppicious due to him not getting out of bed at the alarm), we were eventually let back in at six in the morning, but told not to go into the kitchen, which was then a crime scene.
There were police in taking photos and dusting for fingerprints and cleaners sorting out the mess all night.
One of my flatmates didn't come hom until the morning. He'd been held in a cell at the station from about six until midday. Everyone knows it was him and he's even said he feels really shit about it, but can't remember a thing about trying to set the place alight or pretty much anything about last night, he was pretty wasted.
There is so much tension about the place now as a couple of the other flatmates are feeling scared/shocked/angry.
The guy who did it (or we think anyway) has been avoiding the residance officers that have been coming round all day and has now gone back to his parents for the weekend. He'll almost certainly be kicked out of the halls, but I don't think he'll be charged for it as there's not really any evidence it was him.
How bizzare. Thought I'd share...
