because pickups aren't microphones so how the sound resonates in the hollow body shouldnt be picked up unless it somehow actually affects the way the strings move, yet they do sound different (not that ive used one but based on all those jazz types)I have absolutely no idea about resonaor guitars though they look scarey
a semi-acoustic has different acoustic characteristics to a solid-body - the resonations die away in a different way and also different tonal qualities will be emphasised. The whole body just resonates in a different way, which affects the way the strings vibrate, thus affecting the sound. I haven't explained this very well !
