Why am I incapable of turning down invitations without feeling bad?

theguywithnousername [Edit] [Delete] 22:52, 16 October '08

(I might have started a thread on this before)

Totally out the blue, my neighbour invited me out to see her friend's band tonight. I might have gone were it not for the fact that I was knackered and looking forward to a quiet night in but I just said "I might come along later" (which I didn't know for sure I wouldn't) and now feel bad for not going but I'm not sure why I feel I should have gone anyway...

Obviously the only problem with these things is that people always take the first time you ask 'em to do something as being a permanent answer (like how if someone offers you a tea or a coffee at work, whichever one you choose they'll often then take to be your preference for the rest of the time working there). And feasibly I might want to go out and see her friend's band in the future if they're any good but not tonight so she'll probably never ask again.

I'm not even sure what I'm on about here.
