I have an English degree and a hot ass, and I'm literally good for nothing.
and am failing like a bitch to find a decent job. We should start our own company and give this recession what for.
With the government part owning banks and wanting to get the economy strong again, they're going to start making lending between banks and small business a lot, lot easier and at much more reasonable rates.
when does this happen?
up there, I found Manchester to be a v. difficult place to get a halfway decent job unless you were an aspirant professional i.e a trainee accountant, junior doctor etc.
Everyone else I knew just worked for the council...

I applied to about 40 jobs in manc, loads just in shite shops and didnt
get a reply from any in about 3 weeks. first interview i get is with levis and
got it. woop woop. come see me in the arndale i will flog you some quality denim.
agencies as shite, if you're on a couple just pester them like hell and they'll
give you a job to shut you up eventually,
got a call 1 day later
got a interview last week
the 2nd part yesterday
the job today
my agency was boom!
I have a journalism with English degree and I've been looking for weeks with no joy.
Even getting interviews is a struggle - I was recently turned down for an interview by a company based 20 miles from where I live because they were 'concerned about the commute', ffs. Bloody ridiculous.
offer to go and do some free "work experience" for a week or so at various places of a similar ilk. Try and get something on your CV.
go for a year travelling! I graduated post sept 11th when grad jobs had dried up and spent 6+ months wasting my time and being insulted. Take some time off let the world come back around and hop on the train again fresh and un jaded.
and she had 8 months inbetween getting job and starting as she wanted to travel. They're now paying her half pay for 8 months NOT to come into work.
i got my degree over the summer and couldn't be bothered to think about career stuff so i'm stashing away pennies working at a bakery to eventually go wandering around america and europe
somewhere in asia, esspecially as an english graduate. that way you dont need to save up much. You could also work and travel for a year in australia with about 5k savings to get you started easily.
for TEFL for teaching english.

i went to america and over europe. year later i've got a job sorted and a sweet year of messing about under my belt. it was awesome!
